Atlantic & Pacific Management issued a pet policy amendment to residents of "The Villas at Camino Bernardo" on April 4th. The policy was dated "Effective January 1" (three months prior to distribution). Under the heading "Additional Pet Rules" lists a requirement for cats to be "declawed (on front paws) by 6 months)."
On complaining to management that the policy is inhumane, I received a statement that the declaw policy had been "on the books" for 15 years. There was no mention in my original pet agreement of a declaw requirement. Several emails from animal advocates have merited the same untrue response.
I haven't lost any money yet, but it was wrong for them to post a new policy 3 months after its effective date, and even more wrong to lie to residents about the policy's origin. Furthermore, I resent being treated like an idiot, as Atlantic & Pacific did when they assumed I wouldn't look at my original lease documents to verify the original policy.
