I went through school at the ms swift school of b/s in sept. I went there because i knew someone who worked for ms and thought it was a good co to work for. The school was still concidered to be ms at the time but swift was calling the shots.By the time that i found out swift had bought out ms i was already enroled for one week.
What that means in their world is that you have signed a contract so if you quit you still have to pay a prorated cost of the tuition for nothing. This is one of the ways that they screw you out of your money.
So seeing as though i could not afford to do that i decided that i would have to finish the school and go to work for them.
While attending the school I saw and heard things that were not right by anyones standards! To me when 80 drivers quit a co in one week there is something really wrong! (and i dont mean with the drivers).
When they send a woman home saying that she was an illegal and wanted by the INS but she wasnt. Sounds like discrimination and slander to me. But even if she was how did she make it past the screening process? You also have to remember this was right after sept 11th.
Or how about when you are told (by one of the trainers) that swift has told them that if they value their job they had better start passing people. No matter how bad they are!
I saw people get their CDL that i would not ride in a car with much less an 18wheeler! I know of two people who got their licence who didnot pass the driving test. I know this to be a fact because I was told by the instructor that give them their test.
But the real kick in the teeth came after graduation. After you graduate you have to go to orentation. At the orentation they hand you a company hand book with all of their rules, regs, and so called benifits. Needless to say everything had changed!"everything SUCKED". But still i was stuck because of the contract. So after the orentation you go home and wait for a trainer. After sitting home for two weeks i called them to find out what was going on.
They said that they didnot have any trainers and that i would just have to wait.By this time i had been off work for two months.
So i told them that i couldnot wait any longer and that i was going to have to find employment elsewhere. They then told me that if i tried to get on somewhere else that they would have my licence suspended. (which they cannot do) but i didnt know that at the time. So in order for me to get another job i took out a loan and paid them 2200$.
And that was with me paying all of my own expenses while attending school.
But even though i paid them off i still dont have a decent job because in order to get a job with someone else you still have to sign contracts for more training!
All that a contract is for is so that they can use you, underpay you, generallyit amounts to slavery!
And unless you have plenty of money they think there is nothing you can do about it.
But there is pleanty of things you can do. Best thing is not to do it at all. If no one goes to these ripoffs they cease to exist!
If you have already made the mistake of geting caught in one of these scams do your research. Find out if they receive federal money to operate their schools. Learn the employment laws from the state that their in.
Report them to the BBB, DOT, dept of edc, dept of labor, dept of safty, etc. What ever applys to your case!
I am making it my mission to take down these white collar scam artist. There is no reason that anyone should have to put up with all the crap these co put you through just to get a supposed better job!
I hope this letter stops someone from making the same mistakes I made or at least helps someone going thru the same thing.
