My daughter was 16 and has been writing poems for 3 years. Her poems come from her heart about life experiences which has been a hard life. She received letters stating she was selected to read her poem at 'THE BANQUET" she was so excited that she made it that far and that she would have a chance to actually win the top poetry award.
Her father is disabled and I was working full time and attending Nursing school full time. She has 2 other sisters so we are on a very limited income and I had to be the bad guy and tell her we couldnt afford the coffee table book or attend the banquet.
She was heart broken and decided she would try to save up money, now mind you this is for the 1st poem she submitted and was only 14 so she couldnt get a job so she tried to save cans and aluminum. She did this for a month she had to her what seemed to be a lot and turned it in to see how much money she had earned. This was another disappointment she had only earned $16. Still needing $500 plus it didnt look possible to attend the banquet.
She submitted 5 more poems hoping to win the $100 prizes and I wanted to help her so I did the same. To my surprise I received the same letter she did at the beginning that my poem had been selected, as time went on I got an invitation to the "BANQUET" She was so proud her mom got accepted she was determined we would earn the $ somehow. Another road block her father had to have major surgery, so it still didnt look promising for us to attend "THE BANQUET". We also couldnt get the book still. I also want to know how to get her poems back from their site and find out if they are using them to make $.
If anyone knows how to make them pay for the emmotional trauma they have caused please post rebuttal.
Thank You,
Indiana
