This company is a total SCAM!
They place ads in the local paper for "distribution center" jobs and give an 800 number for you to call.
Then you attend a mass interview, along with about 50 other people. The speaker, who called himself "Scott Martin" at ours, gives a big infomercial-like speech. He points out the "owner" of the distributor, who sits in the back quietly. Ours was in a pretty crappy building that looked like it had just been rented. They were smoking indoors and throwing their cigarette butts on the carpet!
After that, you get a "personal interview" with one of the two scam artists. If you seem clueless and don't ask questions, they'll invite you back for the next 4 days of UNPAID training.
During the training, they promise you'll make over $1200 a week from appointments they set up in the homes of people who want to buy their Filter Queen Defender 360 air purifier. They say they get the appointments from their infomercial (which supposedly stars JAMES EARL JONES? Yeah right!) and Physician referrals.
However, they really get their referrals by cold-calling people from the phone book and telling them they won a prize! The "customer" is then told that, in order for them to get the prize, they must sit through a 30 minute presentation! So, as a salesperson, you are not welcomed at all! To top it off, you're supposed to sell them an air purifier for $1000 that goes on eBay for about 1/4 of that price!
Also, the contract you must sign in order to become an independent contractor (hey! What happened to medical, dental, and vision benefits now that you're a contractor and not an employee? Oh, that's right! You don't get them!) This is the worst part of the scam: they actually make you sign a paper that says (in jargon) that they DO NOT HAVE TO PAY YOU. They say that it's "at their discretion!"
When confronted with this information in front of our entire training class, Mr. Martin, while sweating profusely, denied everything. When asked about the above referenced contract clause, he simply said "oh, but we will pay you!" I asked why he wouldn't put it in writing, and he had no answer.
When people started walking out of training, Mr. Martin SNAPPED. He started throwing out personal jabs at people. The worst was a man who quietly got up to leave and said "I've seen enough." Mr. Martin yelled after him "GO GROW SOME MORE POT SINCE YOU ALREADY HAVE A FELONY FOR IT!" This was private information that he had provided on his application! After that, pretty much everyone decided that he was an unethical person and got up and left. Unfortunately, some of them stayed.
I also thought it was funny that they kept demanding I leave every time I asked a question that they couldn't honestly answer. When I didn't, the owner's wife came in screaming at me and had to be restrained by several men. I firmly believe that it would have gotten physical if they hadn't. How professional!
