We received a letter from Midland January 24 informing us that we owed them $135.91. They said that if we sent them $67.96 then out debt would be paid in full and they would report to the credit bureaus that it was paid.
Well we don't argue that we didn't owe the debt on the Aspire Visa because we did. What we did argue and are still argueing with Midland is that we paid the debt in full to a law office back in may 24. They have called here over and over and i have explained to them as well as my husband has explained to them that we paid this debt and that we will not under any circumstances send them any money.
I am now wondering why Midland would buy an account from someone in the year 2006 that has been paid in full back in 2005? Did they think that we would just assume that we still owed this amount to them and send them a check?
What i am also wondering is how are they getting away with this scam? Is this stuff not against some sort of law and do we as consumers and as Americans have some kind of rights to protect us from haveing to pay these people that are ripping us off?
