I received a green notecard in the mail with a 1 866 number to call for federal grant assistance. I called the number and a man told me that for a fee of $299.97, I would receive all the infomation needed to get money for school and housing. He said if I didn't receive at least $5000.00 I would be refunded all but about $30.00 of my payment for processing fees.
I set up for the payment to be withdrawn at the end of the month. I gave him my infomation, thinking since he was "with the department of federal aid" it was legit. I came across this site and now I have to call the bank in the morning and figure out how to fix everything else.
No money has been withdrawn from my account yet. Hoppefully it's not too late. I can't afford for my account to be emptied. Thanks to this site, though, at least I'm not in the dark anymore.
