Complaint / Review
Dandelion Books
Ripoff

Dandelion Books has been cought red-handed selling books by various authors, numbering in the tens of thousands, and not paying the royalties due to the authors. There is proof that Carol Adler has under reported or simply claimed no sales when the exact opposite is true.

I have recieved about 2,000 responses from those who have said they purchased a book published by Dandelion and Carol Adler, president of Dandelion Books claimed sales of less than 100 copies of this exact same book.

She has also been caught turning down, on the author's behalf, and without the author's immediate knowlege, nor with his approval, requests for paid talks to be given in various venues, thereby depriving the author out of income. We assume, and rightly so, that this is to hide the truth of actual sales from the author.

The so-called 'royalty statements' Deandelion issues are not detailed, do not give pertinent information as to where the sales took place and for all intents and purposes are merely a number pulled out of thin air with no way to verify anything.

Dandelion Books has also been found to have engaged in questionable customs declarations when shipping to other countries, causing the buyer to either give up in frustration in aquireing copies or having to re-order several times.

We suspect this publisher is operating with at least two sets of accounting books and we strongly warn others who wish to sign a contract with Dandelion Books to do so with legal representation and insist on writing in changes which will protect the writer in ways not necessary for most other publishers.

There are some authors, though they are a very small minority, like maybe 1 or 2 out of close to 20, who are satisfied with Dandelion, but they are ones who do not have enough information to adequately make a proper and reasoned rebuttal to the proven facts of Dandelion's fudging of sales figures and refusal to pay due royalties. We have discovered literally tens of thousands of dollars owed to a number of individuals.

Granted she does print books and does not charge the writer, but she also sells much more than she claims, in markets deliberatly chosen to keep the author ignorant of his rightful due and does not properly report it.

This publisher also conveniently and incessantly claims to be the target of some shadowy conspiracy against only her. When pressed for details it is never forthcoming and this acutely paranoid claim of those unnamed and indefinite people out to perpetually 'get' her is stongly suggestive of a mental condition.

Forewarned is forearmed
