All staff demonstrated very unprofessional treatment from the sales person to the store clerk and delivery people.
I bought a 2 piece sueded leather sofa / loveseat package with end stands and a coffee table. The delivery people forgot to place the end stands in the delivery truck so I had to pick them up at the store.
These are the details:
The delivery crew refused to go back to the store and deliver the stands due to other appointments that day. I own a grand am so delivery for me is difficult. Also, none of my friends have trucks or vans. I spoke with a clerk at Value City. This person said they would deliver the stands the following week but I would have to pay an additional delivery charge.
I argued the point that the delivery truck left the stands at the store. It was not my mistake so why should I pay an additional fee to deliver something that should just be delivered already. I had no luck with the clerk. The clerk spoke with her supervisor, I overheard the superisor say; "If he wants it he can pick it up or pay to have it delivered!"
I wound up renting a small uhaul that was more expensive. I did this in spite of not wanting Value City to get more money.
After getting home with the stands, one of the end stands was damaged. The glass top was cracked all the way through. This turned into a sililar confrontation. To make a long story short, I had to repurchase a new top. Reason, since I delivered it myself, I was unable to prove it was cracked in the box.
This occurred in April.
May:
I purchased a stain guard insurance plan and a stain guard treatment with the above furniture. The stain guard applied upon purchase was then guaranteed to allow any stain to be removed by wiping the furniture with a damp cloth. The stain guard price was separate from the insurance plan price.
I have a stain on the sofa from hair jell that was accidentally spilled. Again, the pich I got from the salesperson was that any stain or spill would be removed with a damp cloth. If not, Value City would have the stain professionally removed. This means furniture pickup etc all at no charge.
Value City has no record of this insurance plan and I am now an outraged customer. After walking away frustrated from another simlilar clerk / manager experience, I heard the clerk make a joke and snicker with another clerk about my situation. Again, the most unprofessional staff of a furniture store in the South Bend-Mishawaka area.
