We hired Scott on the recommendation of a friend. He seemed quite friendly, looked very clean cut, and was very outgoing. He did the first couple of small jobs quite well, it was after we began the bigger jobs and after we referred him to a few other folks that things went south.
First he walked off with a $200 materials advance, never providing receipts to show that he had spent the money. Then he left me high and dry with a bathroom not quite finished and the work done not quite to code; so much of it had to be redone.
I finally heard back from the friend who recommended Scott to us and was told that he had recently proven that Scott had broken into his home and stolen several expensive guitars (my friend is a professional musician). Scott is being arraigned on those charges this coming Thursday in the Davis court system.
My friend also made me aware that Scott was also recently caught stealing building materials from a Davis building supply shop (it's a small privately owned place I don't recall the name) and is also being arraigned on those charges.
