Contracted David Portell to a kitchen job in April. Because we couldn't remove the granite we were having the bottom cabinets refaced and adding new upper cabinets. He talks a mile a minute and jumps around like he's coming out of his skin. He promises you the sun and the moon but watch out this guy is a fast talker and if you see him RUN THE OTHER WAY!!! He made our new pantry too large so he sawed the sides down inside my house and literally banged the thing into place. Can't open the doors all the way because it sits so close to the wall. This makes the pull-out drawers that I paid for useless. The under cabinet lighting was installed too close to front of cabinets so I can't change the bulbs. They are shorting out and tripping the GFI outlet on the wall. He has told me for the last 8 months that he was getting a light and will come over and fix it but I'm still waiting. Waiting for his 100% guarantee that WILL NEVER HAPPEN. Cabinets were much darker then color I picked out. Two months after installation paint started chipping off of cabinets (not all of them just some of them). I called Dave and we set up an appointment. Every single time he was supposed to come by he called and cancelled. His excuses were roof blew off building, electricity out in building, workers sick, on a big job can't come right now, truck leaking transmission fluid, car broke down, bad storm last night and building is flooded, have to go out of town. Paint job on cabinets was starting to fail after 2 months, no urethane on edges of cabinets, dents on every door where he put his hardware template. Refacing is literally peeling off cabinets causing washboard effect. Can stick my finger behind it and pull it off of cabinets. His excuse for his is it must have been humid the day he installed it. The speel he'll give you when he's trying to sell it to you is how cheap he is and what a good job he does and once this glue is stuck to the cabinets it WILL NEVER COME OFF. This guy is a coon man of the highest magnitude. He only gives you references of people he has done a good job for. My name is not on his reference list. I will have to admit the cabinets looked good when he walked out the door after the job was finished. Just like a new car they smelled great and looked great. Then after a while, just like a new car, I started noticing things chipping off and dents and lack of urethane on edges of raised part. You can take a new car back to the dealer... You can't take cabinets back and it is IMPOSSIBLE TO GET THIS GUY BACK OUT TO HONOR HIS 100% GUARANTEE. He will stall you until your year is up and then tell you it's wear and tear. Finally got a lawyer and we are suing so now he's filing bankruptcy yet again. Luckily we are very patient people and we can wait until the bankruptcy is closed to get this loser. Do yourself a favor and check him out thoroughly on pacer or casenet.com before you hire him. You won't be sorry. Pay a little extra and go to someone reputable, don't be fooled by his pictures and his bullcrap like we were. He won't return out phone calls now so we took a drive out to his shop/garage. We sit across the street and called him on the phone and took pictures of him looking at his phone but not answering while standing in his garage. Does this sound like someone you want to hire. You pay a lot of money for a kitchen remodel... Do your homework and be an informed consumer.
