Check out a builder on HADD.com and The complaint and search for complaints on good search engines like www.google.com. Read books that warn of home building industry scams and tactics, and discuss in depth how to REALLY research builders. One example is "Your New House, " by Fields. Check court records, and your state's secretary of state office to see if the company officers have other corporations... Then research them, too.
HADD receives thousands of complaints about home builders, many involving serious defects, some which make the home unsafe and uninhabitable. This is happening to people of every level of education and income, with homes in all price ranges. Most of these people didn't realize how well hidden most complaints really are and thought they were doing diligent research before they bought.
