My elderly father called on Swift Plumbers on 8-24-10 to address water on his tile floor outside of his closet containing his hot water heater and A/C drain line. Plumber Todd arrived and was shown where water was located. Most plumbers would have looked near the water for the source of leakage. Todd, from Swift Plumbers, scared my father stating "You could end up having a lot of you tile torn up for removal if this leak is as bad as I think it may be". My father was then told that Swift Plumbers offered a "Leak Detection Service" that he highly recommended my dad to have done.
The work order was signed and my dad had the Leak Detection Service performed by Swift Plumbing for $300.00.interestingly, Todd began his leak detection outside my father's home, not even checking the utility closet first! He worked his way inside the home and lo and behold, found the leak in the utility closet! The leak was from the A/C Drain line, as the coupling had not been glued. Thankfully, the plumber told my father that he didn't charge him extra for the glue to repair the leaky coupling.
What happened to good old fashioned common sense? This problem could've easily been resolved without all the specialized leak detection equipment that was deemed "necessary" to identify the problem.
I contacted Swift Plumbers and made my complaint to them via phone conversation. I told them that my father was on a limited income and the cost of this repair would cut into his living expenses for the month of September. The president of the company here stated that he would in no way refund any part of the charges, that he backed up his plumber and all was done right.
After two more phone conversations, the president of the local company said, "Look, I don't want to cut into your father's food money for the next month, I'll give him money out of my own pocket to cover his expense, but I will in no way call it a refund!
Needless to say, no money ever came over the last 5 weeks, and I provided help with my dad's expenses this past month. I am going out of my way to take the time to submit this so that another person might benefit from it and avoid the costly expense and bad experience with Swift Plumbers of Southwest Florida.
