Maginn Heating and Air, Maginn HVAC Consumer Fraud, claimed to repair system by changing parts problem resurfaced an hour after tech left

This company tried to swindle me out of over $3200. I contacted this company to repair our central air unit b/c it would not start. The tech arrived the same day and said my my problem did not sound good befroe he even looked at the unit. He examined the unit and stated it may cost a few thousand dollars b/c he thought the compressor was bad. However, he felt he might be able to get it to started by adding a turbo booster. He was able to get it running but also needed to change several other parts and added 6 lbs of freon (which seemed excessive since I had the system charged a few weeks earlier). An hour after he left, the sysem shut down completely. It would not start at all. The tech returned the following day and now stated the problem was in my attic unit. The drain pan was cracked and the entire a-coil had to be replaced b/c you cannot just replace the pan. I was quoted it would cost me an additional $2000 and $1500 was needed upfront. At this point I was livid. I had paid them over $1200 the day before and it would now cost me another $2000 to fix. I contacted another HVAC company, had them inspect the unit and was informed that the reason the system would not start and shut down was indeed b/c the drain pan was cracked. Replacing and adding freon had nothing to do with getting the unit to start. The reason it shut down was b/c the water overflowing from the drain pan caused the system relay switch to shut off as a precaution. So a leak would not occur and cause my celing to collapse. Upon further inspection by the other HVAC tech, I was informed that indeed the most expensive part on my invoice, the condenser motor fan was not changed at all and it was highly unlikely that 6 lbs of freon was added to the system.in addition the other part that was added, was installed very sloppily. Nor did the entire a-coil have to be rplaced. It is possbile to just replace the drain pan which costs about $100.

This company is a complete scam, there is no address on the invoice, the invoice does not even state what type of company or business they practice. It simply states "Maginn". They are not even licensed or registered to do business in the State of NJ. Also, they have dozens of phone numbers listed in various towns. All of these phone numbers lead to their main 800 number. Their telephone number is blocked on caller id. They clearly are trying to hide something. It also turns out that the secretary is related b/c her last name is also Maginn but they will not disclose this information. Furthermore, the tech drives an unmarked mini-van with no commercial plates or company name listed. I am writing this report in hopes of avoiding any other person of being taken advantage. They remind me of gypsies/flight by night contractors.
