Handyman Club of America
Deceptive business practice

I fell for this scam! They sent my some promotional material. It claimed you would get to try tools out, and receive their monthly magazine. So I figured the magazine was worth it. What they did not say, was that each month you would get a book in the mail. They included a return sticker with postage, in case you decided not to keep it. The first was ten dollars, and was worth it. I kept it, and paid for it.
However the second book was another story. It did not come with a pre-posted return envelope and the price was $29.98 including the shipping and handling. This book was not worth the price asked. The tools received for "testing" were simple items you could purchase in any dollar store. I now realize this is just a come on, to sell books. Like the old Time-Life books. If they simply had stated this from the start, I might not have issues with them. However this is just a scam to get you to buy their books. I have all the fix-it books I need. If they simply sent a list of publications. I might actually purchase a few. The book on tools and techniques was good. The book on building decks and patios was not worth any more than twelve dollars at most.
I am afraid that I have been suckered into getting books in the mail forever. I am simply warning others.
