Garys - Unfortunately, we were forced to replace your current backplate because one of your security locks was warped causing the plate to be damaged during the pry process. Apple creates the plates with these security locks to prevent the user from opening the iPod without allowing them to easily detect it to deter fraudulent activity. Nonetheless, we replace anything we might damage during the repair process with a replacement of brand new cosmetic condition. I'm very sorry that a valuable engraving was ruined and I realize this cannot be replaced. It's an unfortunate situation and I sympathize. As for your data loss, this is common when a logic board requires replacement. Many times, the data becomes corrupt during the faulty period. For the inconvenience, you've received a full refund back to your account and what should be a 100% functional iPod for no cost. I wish our transaction had gone better, but we appreciate giving us the opportunity to assist you.
