Inflates your bill BIG TIME

Complaint Description:
This is the letter I have faxed 3x to Chris. W no response and 3 calls w no call backs. Dear Chris, On 11/04 upon arrival to my home i found a small trail of water on my garage floor. Upon inspection I found it to be my hot water tank leaking. This was the original hot water tank. I called your establishment around 5pm and inquired about pricing to have it replaced. The guy who answered the phone was very polite and informative. After talking with him we agreed to do it during normal business hours due to a higher labor rate after hours and it could be done at 0800 the next day and only take about 1.5hr. The next day I went to work leaving my roommate pricing and ect that I was given the evening before. Gas Water Tank $482.78 Labor rate of 85.00 ph Time apx to do task 1.5hr I informed my roommate the cost should not exceed $700.00. (this gives him 2hrs) I drained the hot water tank in advance for him as well as shut off the water at the tank and shut the gas off at the valve. This tank had perfectly fine, like new (never touched except @ orrigional install), flexible copper connection lines to aid in the ease of tank removal and replacement. When the job was completed my roommate called due to the bill he (roommate) was presented was $896.82. Needless to say I hit the roof. When I asked what all was done he stated the guy (Jose) had cut off the like new good flexible copper connections and replaced it with new direct copper lines. So, Jose removed perfectly good parts to replace them with new parts. This is nothing more than ringing up a bill on a consumer. Of course this caused the labor time to get jacked up as well due to this un necessary work. There was NO reason to replace these perfectly good lines/connections with new lines/connections. You have now made it where if/when this tank has to be replaced and if there is any tank discrepancy in the next new tank I will have to have it cut out. Chris, this is just ripping a consumer off. Cont. I also found out that my room mate heard what he thought was Jose cutting the PVC pipes and went into the garage to see what was going on. Jose had already removed one of the good connections/pipe and stopped to ask my roommate if I wanted the brass valve replaced. He (roommate) said no. Thank goodness. Jose wanted to replace a perfectly good brass valve. The good connections had already been started to be removed and Jose never asked my roommate if I wanted these connections removed/replaced. It was too late for that. If he had my roommate would have called and I obviously I would have told him no. Replacing a brass valve (or wanting to) when in the 15 year history of the vale it had been turned on once and turned off once is beyond comprehension. There is/was no reason to remove perfectly good connections/pipe and fittings just for the sake of doing it other than to jack up the bill and that is all this was. There was no reason for it and that is probably why he never asked to do it. I have tried to speak with you regarding this matter on the 11/5 however was unable to due to your not available. I am going to fax this to you office (813-672-0886) in hope it reaches you. If I had not come from a 5th generation pipe fitter family you probably could have gotten away with this extremely poor business practice. Im not a bad person Chris, and I have no concerns paying for a persons services however, I wont be ripped off and stay quiet. So, I will leave it up to you to do the right thing here. If I do not hear from you within 10 days (Nov 16th) I will be taking further action. Sincerely, *It is Nov. 13 and I have not heard from them in spite of 3 calls and faxed this letter to his office 3x.

Your Desired Resolution:
*It is now November 25 and the check has cleared my bank without one call back from Chris to discus if he is willing to 'do the right thing' here. I guess I now have my anwser. What I am now seeking is the non approved work funds sent back to me. As stated in this letter I have no problem paying for a persons work but I will not just sit back and get 'ripped off'. Cont The total amount I paid was $896.82. The job was to take 1.25 to 1.5hrs (the 1.5hr was max) @ $85.00ph labor. I Paid $896.82 I am asking to be refunded $286.54 This pays 1.5hr labor (their stated max) and the cost of the hot water tank. This would be the max and what I agreed to over the phone. I will be out future cost due to now my tank is 'hard plumbed in' and the overflow relief line run in front of the hank, trapping it in. This will be a future cost I will have to endure.
