Recently I called Gillece for an estimate on my central a/c unit. The technician found that a capacitor needed replaced. The full list price quoted was roughly $800, with a "membership" list price of $616.
When I told the technician that I would not pay this much for a commonly used electronic component, he mentioned a "coupon that is circulating" and lowered the price to $480.
I specifically asked the technician if the part was covered under warranty as the entire unit was installed in 2004. He said "probably not". I suspected extreme over-pricing tactics and smelled foul-play related to the warranty.
Rest assured, I was wise in not paying Gillece $480 to replace a part that IS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY for 10 years and for which I received a reasonable rate to replace from a competitor. The competitor will charge labor costs only, as they are an authorized, licensed dealer for the manufacturer.
Gillece is definitely using their tactics to dodge warranties that are valid, and their prices are inflated hundreds of times over. I will not call them again, and I advise others to be aware of their unprofessionalism.
Their assumption that consumers are ill-equipped to make valuable decisions and cost comparisons will eventually put their business at risk.
