Pacific Monarch Grand Vacations
Almost bought the timeshare but not sure if they will still scam me in some other way

My husband was listinging to 95.5 KLOS where the DJ said to call a number if you knew the answer to a question he announced. My husband called the number thinking that it was KLOS but was the sponsor of the give away. It was Monarch Grand Vacations.

They said he had won a 3-day 2-nite stay in Las Vegas at the Cancun Resort but we had to put a $99 dollar deposit but that we would get $100 back in casino money to play (it ended up being a voucher at the Casino Royale). The catch was that we would have to listen to a 90-minute presentation on timeshares.

We looked up the resort on the internet and it seemed nice so we said ok. We get there this pas friday, June 27 at night and go the the presentation on saturday june 28 in the afternoon. We listened to our sales rep Andres for a few minutes and then see a 9-minute movie.

After that the sales rep, Andres, presents the vacation packages. Andres tell us that the offer is good only on that day which seemed like pressure but we remained 'open-minded'. He also said that the rate for the cost per point would be going up July 1 and probably again in December.

I had asked our sales rep if the points per resort go up and he said that they didn't. Then I asked him if there was something in writing as it would be a deal breaker. He leaves and comes back with a points schedule and it says that weekends can be more points than weekdays. And for the point cost to go up, the Board of Home owners has to approve it and we as home owners would be voting along with all the other home owners. He states that he did not think homeowners would vote to charge themselves more. He said that everything would be documented. He asks for my husband's credit and debit card since we had to split up the $855.00 down payment and my husband signed the charge slips.

Then Andres said we had to go to a verification process which is where you sign the contract. We go and meet the verifier, Ari. He asks to record our conversation for quality purposes. Strange, but we say ok. We read a few pages of a contract and we start to initial statements. My husband has one page and I have another. I read on and sign my name to one of the pages and go on to another page where I catch one item where it is not clear about the points going up.

It says something like the vacation point values can increase and decrease. I am concerned about the 'inflation' if we only have 89 points for life. Ari and Andres bring in a manager, and he basically tells me that it is up to the board of owners and some other information that I did not understand so I was not comfortable. He also mentions that he does not think homeowners will charge themselves more points.

I stop initialing the pages and just continue to read. I then find out that the resort we were told was in Dana Point is not in Dana Point but in Capistrano Beach and the Cabo resort is not in Los Cabos but in some other nearby city. Then I say I am uncomfortable with continuing filling out the contract and signing the rest of the documents because now I am not sure what we are buying.

Andres indicates that he is sorry that I thought the Dana Point resort was in Dana Point and then states that the resorts are close to the areas we thought they were in.

I told him I am sorry and I no longer want to purchase and my husband agrees. Ari at some point stop the taping and Ari goes to void the charges. He returns with void slips and my husband signs them.

I also ask that Ari write void on our paperwork. He writes void on some pages that we did not sign and I said I wanted the signed ones to be voided and at this time I feel bad for wasting everyones time. He was very kind and said those were internal and shows there are more real estate papers we needed to sign that we didn't so we were not obligagted and he was voiding them because I requested. And that all the doucmentation would be shredded. He said that we should do some more research and then we would come back and get the package and feel good about it.

We left but I do not think anyone felt fine with what happened. Everyone was disappointed. We get back home and I research and see the rip off report. Now I am concerned that they may do something illegal and debit our accounts or try to say that we are obligated to pay something.

The fact that we voided the sales would be evidence that we cancelled the purchase and that since we did not sign everything that we are not obligated. I have emailed the 2 email addresses ([email protected] [email protected]) that they provide on their site that the contract was cancelled. They never provided us with any other contact info to rescind the contract.
