I thought you might be interested in a few tidbits if you are considering doing business with these people.
1) EVERYONE is a 1099 contractor. They will lie to you and claim they are Owens Corning Employees. Not true. This is a franchise, and Stephen Brooks has several. I will post his home address in an upcoming post. If he isn't hiding anything, that won't be a problem, right?
2) The Sales Rep has the ability to discount in steps. His first discount will be 25% of the list price. His second will be 10% of whats left for the "Flexible Installation Discount". He will "Accidentally" remember this discount when he comes upstairs after supposedly checking your electrical box. This is really done to relieve tension so he can come close the sale. This discount is only offered after he calls his boss, Buck Buckley, to be sure that buckley gets to be the star. Egomaniacs who are control freaks need that. If you don't think Buck is a control freak, talk to his assistant, Mike. The "Last Try" is to offer you 33% off the list price, which the franchise requires a rep to do. They then will try to close the deal via phone if they miss, at 38% off. Thats the lowest level that the Manager gets paid at. There is still more discount to be had.
3) Almost half the customers who write deals cancel in the 3 day cooling off period. And they should. They've been ripped off.
4) Owens Corning says a drywall basement takes months to finish and costs about $69 per square foot. That is how they get you to digest the lies they are about to tell you as to the cost of their system. I had my basement professionally drywalled and finished in about a week and a half for $21 per sq ft. Owens Corning AVERAGES about $55 per square foot.
5) Owens Corning makes the Homeowner do things and says its "Because of Building Code". Lies. Ask your local Building Inspector if he requires an Electrical Closet. Just a spoof to get you to buy another door and door trim for about $1000.
