Self-renew contract ripoff

I started using Monitronics in October 1999. We had a 2 year contract. We never turned off the alarm, and continued happily until 2004.in we realized that we had been paying for a service for a year that we didn't use, so we called to cancel. Of course, they also gave us the run around, and told us to write a letter, which we DID. They still did not turn off our service, so we called again.

Monitronics gave the same old excuse that they had never gotten the letter (We faxed it). So we sent another one in November. Of course by that time, Monitronics told us that we were too late and that we owed another year. They are a crooked company, and I was one of their best customers who always paid on time for YEARS. Well, now they have turned me in for a crazy $255, and have hurt my spotless credit.

I have turned in a letter today to the Better Business Burea. I spoke to my lawer today. I plan to contact my local representative, the Attorney general's office, and the district attorney's office because I DO NOT FEEL that any company should have the right to step all over people who are decent and honest.
