Ripoff and poor workmanship

After being hit hard by three hurricanes in the state of Florida, everyone needed to get their homes repaired. We found what my husband and I thought was a respectable contractor that would work for us and do quality work. But, we have since found that to be untrue.

My roof was the first item to be completed. After that was put on, we noticed that there was a slight hump in the valley of the roof. After questioning the contractor several times, they assured us that it would go away after a couple of weeks of warm weather. It hasn't gone away and this has been since October.

Then the inside of our home had to be repaired. Ceilings and walls had to be ripped out, carpet was ripped out and every light fixture and doors were taken off. The first set of men that the contractor had come in were to do demolition. They demolished all right.in the process, demolishing my vertical blinds. Then drywall was hung and ceilings were sprayed. After a couple of days, we noticed lines going across our ceilings. When the contractor was questioned he said it would dry it was most likely the popcorn texture that was still a little wet. Needless to say, nothing has dried and we have since found out that because of all the water damage that we had, there is water in the trusses that the contractor failed to check. Here in Florida with the high humidity, black mold and mildew grows fast. I asked this contractor several times to come and do something about this issue and the roof. He will not respond. I have since had to bring in dehumidifiers and hepa filters to hopefully take care of some of the problem. And my walls have had to be sprayed with a germicide. All of this was suppose to originally be done by the contractor that we hired. He didn't want to be bothered.

We later found out that he is in the pocket of the insurance company that we have. Not good! I wonder how many other homes that this contractor has messed up and taken advantage of homeowners. He was even using workers that had no licenses, no experience in doing any of the work. This we found out afterwards also.

My neighbor had a roof put on by this same contractor and it was architectural shingles, this contractor had someone lay them like three tab shingles. Their roof had to be ripped off three times before it was completed correctly and they had to get an independant inspector to examine the roof. Only after they did such, the contractor would do something.

With all the damage that everyone endured in Florida, more so Osceola County, Florida I know there are more individuals out there that are having the same problems with contractors and sub-contractors that have worked on their homes. We are all being taken advantage of and run the risk of having our homes filled with mold, mildew and who knows what else. Alot of us have children and this will not be a good thing.

No I will have no other choice but to take this contractor to small claims court. Good luck to everyone that is still having their home repaired and stay away from this contractor even though he is licensed, bonded and insured. They only care about their pockets not the homeowner.
