LexisNexis

LexisNexis Risk Solutions, headquartered in the Atlanta area and part of RELX, sells identity, fraud and insurance-risk data to banks, insurers and agencies, so most people meet it when a company pulls a report about them. Its consumer site says LexisNexis Risk Solutions Inc. is an FCRA consumer reporting agency. This page lists its own channels for getting a report, disputing errors, freezing a file and opting out, then the record as displayed on October 7, 2026: BBB (D-, 861 complaints in three years), the CFPB database (69,243 complaints), a pending multidistrict driving-data class action, and a 2024 data-theft incident as reported by the press.

LexisNexis problems: get your report, dispute, freeze or opt out (checked October 6-7, 2026)

LexisNexis Risk Solutions collects public-record and other data that banks, insurers, landlords, employers and others buy to verify identity or assess risk, so most people meet it because a company pulled a report about them, not because they chose it. On its consumer site, the company says LexisNexis Risk Solutions Inc. "is a consumer reporting agency as defined under the Fair Credit Reporting Act" and that LexisNexis Risk Solutions FL Inc. "is not a consumer reporting agency." Below are the company's own channels as published on October 6-7, 2026.

1. See what is in your file.

  • Online: the Online Request Form on consumer.risk.lexisnexis.com. The company says that after you submit it you receive "a letter via U.S. Mail with details explaining how to access your report online." The form asks for identity details and either a Social Security number or a driver's license number and state.
  • By phone: the Consumer Center, 1-888-497-0011 (named on the request page); the Consumer Disclosure page gives 1-866-897-8126 for requesting a Consumer Disclosure Report by phone, and the FACT Act page gives 1-866-312-8076 for a FACT Act Disclosure Report.
  • By mail: printable request form to LexisNexis Risk Solutions Consumer Center, P.O. Box 105108, Atlanta, GA 30348-5108 (FACT Act requests: P.O. Box 105295, Atlanta, GA 30348-5295). The FACT Act page says the law entitles you to one free copy of your applicable consumer report during a 12-month period and that LexisNexis "maintains information on insurance claims histories."

2. Dispute an error. The company's Description of Procedure document says its dispute procedure includes "engagement with the source of the data regarding the disputed item, a complete reinvestigation of the disputed item with the source and a notice containing the results and findings mailed to the consumer," and that you can request a Description of Process letter with the status of your disputes. The FCRA rights summary posted on the company's site says inaccurate, incomplete or unverifiable information "must be removed or corrected, usually within 30 days," and that an agency may continue to report information it has verified as accurate. The company's Consumer Support contact page asks "Have questions about your LexisNexis Risk Solutions file or want to dispute information in your file?" and gives the mailing address LexisNexis Risk Solutions Consumer Center, P.O. Box 105108, Atlanta, GA 30348-5108 and the phone number 1-866-897-8126 (opened October 7, 2026). A separate online dispute form was not identified in the consumer-site pages checked on October 6-7, 2026; the Help page offers a general contact form and a document-upload form. The Description of Procedure says that at the end of a reinvestigation the consumer is sent the reason for the dispute, the name, address and phone number of the data source, notice that the data was verified as accurate, corrected or removed, and "A current copy of consumer's file with the most up to date data." The CFPB advises explaining in writing what is wrong, circling the items on a copy of the report, and sending copies (not originals) of supporting documents, optionally by certified mail with a return receipt. If the information came from a data furnisher (for example an insurer or a court record), the CFPB says the agency must forward your dispute to that company, and its LexisNexis Risk Solutions listing says you may dispute with both the consumer reporting company and the company that shared the information. The same CFPB listing says companies required to give a free annual report must do so within fifteen days of receiving the request.

Insurance adverse action. If an insurer sent you an adverse action letter (the company's examples: denied insurance, increased rates, limited coverage, cancelled policy), the consumer site says to contact the LexisNexis Consumer Center at 1-800-456-6004 to request the information related to it.

3. Freeze your LexisNexis file. The Security Freeze page says LexisNexis offers freezes "and lifts security freezes" free of charge, and that a freeze placed there applies only at LexisNexis Risk Solutions, not at TransUnion, Equifax, Experian or Innovis. Request online, by phone at 1-800-456-1244, or by mail (Attn: Security Freeze, P.O. Box 105108, Atlanta, GA 30348-5108). The page notes that a freeze does not apply to a company with which you have an existing account that requests the report to review or collect the account.

4. Opt out or limit data use. The Opt-Out page covers direct-marketing opt-outs, FCRA prescreen opt-outs and requests under state privacy laws (the home page links "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" and, for California, "Limit the Use of My Sensitive Personal Information"). It says opting out of LexisNexis prescreen lists does not remove you from Equifax, TransUnion or Experian lists, for which it gives 1-888-567-8688.

5. If it is not resolved. Complaints about credit and consumer reports can be filed with the CFPB (consumerfinance.gov/complaint) and your state attorney general. If you are disputing a collection or a debt, remember that a debt collector or an insurer that used LexisNexis data is a different business from LexisNexis: a corrected or removed item may need to be fixed with that company too. Contract disputes about LexisNexis's legal-research, directory or Martindale-Hubbell advertising products (see the complaint section) are business billing matters rather than consumer-report matters; keep your contract, invoices and written correspondence.

Regulators and LexisNexis: what was and was not found (checked October 6-7, 2026)

No CFPB, FTC or state attorney general enforcement order naming LexisNexis Risk Solutions as a respondent was identified in the sources checked on October 7, 2026. That scoping reflects the pages and databases opened for this profile, not a search of every agency or state.

FTC order against General Motors (LexisNexis is not a party). The FTC's order against General Motors LLC, General Motors Holdings LLC and OnStar, LLC concerns connected-car driving data. Its first provision says the respondents "must not disclose Covered Driver Data to any person when that person is acting in the capacity of a Consumer Reporting Agency, for five years from the entry of this Order." The order text does not name LexisNexis. The Register reported on January 15, 2026 that the order was finalized on January 14 and that GM had said it severed third-party telematics deals that fed data to LexisNexis and Verisk (a news report of GM's statement, not a LexisNexis document). The private class action described under litigation does name LexisNexis.

CFPB complaint database. The CFPB publishes consumer complaints it forwards to companies. Counts are in the complaint-record section; they are submissions, not findings by the agency.

LexisNexis Risk Solutions: who it is and who owns it

LexisNexis Risk Solutions describes itself as providing "information-based analytics, decisioning tools and data management services," headquartered in metro-Atlanta, Georgia, and operating "within the Risk market segment of RELX." Its About page says in a bullet list "We employ over 11,000 people," "Offices in 40 countries around the world" and customers in "more than 190 countries and territories," while a paragraph further down the same page says "about 10,000 employees in locations around the world"; the Risk Solutions Contact Us page says "offices in more than 50 locations around the world" (company statements on pages opened October 7, 2026; they differ and are not reconciled here). BBB lists the business at 1000 Alderman Dr, Alpharetta, GA 30005-4101 and, from the raw page data, an incorporation date of February 19, 1975 and a BBB file opened May 8, 2008; BBB also lists alternate names including LexisNexis Screening Solutions Inc., KnowX, LLC and "Lexisnexis - Choicepoint."

The company's consumer site explains what it holds: information "collected from public record and publicly available data sources" plus "proprietary data and information from third-party data sources." It says customers include banks, insurers, healthcare providers, government and law-enforcement agencies, and that companies use its tools "to verify identities in order to offer loans, quote insurance rates, and offer government-assisted benefits." Its About page also says it delivered "more than 530 million U.S. consumer credit assessments in 2025" and that it does business with "95% of the top U.S. personal auto and home insurance companies" (company statements, not independently verified).

Posts in our own archive use the name "Lexis Nexis" for two different kinds of dispute: consumer-report and background-data complaints about Risk Solutions products (for example an insurance claims-history report), and business-customer complaints about LexisNexis directory, Martindale-Hubbell advertising and legal-research contracts. This page treats both as complaints about the same company name but they involve different products.

Complaint record: BBB, CFPB, Trustpilot and our archive (as displayed October 7, 2026)

These figures come from different sources, measure different things and are not added together.

  • BBB (profile for LexisNexis Risk Solutions, Alpharetta, GA): not BBB Accredited; BBB rating D-. BBB lists the reasons as 35 complaints filed against the business that were not resolved and failure to respond to 9 complaints. BBB shows 861 total complaints in the last 3 years and 251 closed in the last 12 months, and 1.04 out of 5 stars from an average of 102 customer reviews. BBB itself notes that displayed complaint text may not represent all complaints filed.
  • CFPB Consumer Complaint Database (company name "LEXISNEXIS"): 69,243 complaints in total, of which 34,026 were received since October 7, 2025 (queried through the CFPB database's own interface on October 7, 2026). In the total, the database's issue categories include "Incorrect information on your report" (42,476), "Improper use of your report" (10,403), "Problem with a company's investigation into an existing problem" (7,617) and "Problem with fraud alerts or security freezes" (3,858). Company responses are recorded as "Closed with explanation" (51,722), "Closed with non-monetary relief" (17,486), "Closed with monetary relief" (3), "Closed" (4) and "In progress" (28); 668 are marked as not timely. These are consumer-submitted complaints and the company's recorded responses, not CFPB findings.
  • Trustpilot (page for www.lexisnexis.com, category Software Company): claimed profile (December 2023), 1.3 out of 5 from 59 reviews (29 in the last 12 months, per Trustpilot). Trustpilot says it does not fact-check reviews. This page is for the website domain generally and may include reviews about LexisNexis products other than Risk Solutions consumer reports; at least one review on the first page appears to concern a job-related dispute rather than a report.
  • usacomplaints.com archive: 7 approved posts from 2006 to 2012 name LexisNexis (or Lexis Nexis / Accurint / Martindale-Hubbell) as the subject. Three describe billing or collection disputes over directory, website or advertising services (two from 2009, one from 2012); one is a 2011 post by a person who says he was a Martindale-Hubbell sales representative criticizing its online marketing; one describes a legal-research contract and a referral to a collection agency (2007); one an Accurint account terminated without stated reason (2008); one a claim that Accurint released personal information (2006); and one a C.L.U.E. insurance claims report that the poster says contained claims belonging to someone else (2012). Court cases involving LexisNexis

Driving-data class action (pending). In re Consumer Vehicle Driving Data Tracking Litigation, MDL No. 3115, is pending before Judge Thomas W. Thrash, Jr. in the Northern District of Georgia. The Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation's June 7, 2024 transfer order describes the putative class actions as alleging that General Motors "collect[ed] information about personal driving behavior, and that it sold that information to data analytics companies like LexisNexis and Verisk, which then created reports of individuals' driving history and sold them to automobile insurance providers." The Panel centralized the cases in Atlanta partly because LexisNexis is headquartered in that district. These are the plaintiffs' allegations. On the docket (newest entries first): an April 22, 2026 Opinion and Order granted in part and denied in part the motions to dismiss filed by LexisNexis Risk Solutions Inc. ("LNRS"), Verisk and the GM defendants; LexisNexis Risk Solutions Inc. filed an answer to the amended complaint on June 17, 2026; and on September 2, 2026 the court authorized the "CRA Defendants" to produce consumer-file information under the FCRA, and, at a hearing, denied GM's and OnStar's motions for clarification and partial reconsideration and took Verisk's partial-reconsideration motion under advisement. No judgment, settlement or class certification was identified on the docket entries checked.

2024 data security incident. According to BleepingComputer (May 29, 2025), notification letters sent starting May 24, 2025 said that on April 1, 2025 LexisNexis learned that on December 25, 2024 an unauthorized third party acquired certain data from GitHub, a third-party software-development platform, and that "The issue did not affect LNRS's own networks or systems." The article, citing a filing with the Maine Attorney General, reports 364,333 affected individuals and, quoting a company spokesperson, says the personal information was "limited to name, contact information (such as phone number, postal or email address), Social Security number, driver's license number or date of birth." The Maine Attorney General notice link cited in coverage returned an "Authentication Required" error when opened on October 7, 2026, so these details are as reported by BleepingComputer; the Maine record's own dates were not read and the differing dates in other reports are not reconciled here. A search of court dockets for related breach suits was not completed for this profile.

August 2026 service shutdown (different LexisNexis division, scope unconfirmed). BleepingComputer reported on August 10, 2026 that LexisNexis took its Diligence, Metabase API and Newsdesk services offline after "unusual activity on servers that are hosted and managed by a third-party vendor," and that the company was investigating with a forensic firm and rebuilding affected systems. The excerpt reviewed does not tie these products to LexisNexis Risk Solutions consumer reports or state that data was taken, and its status after that date was not verified.

Other litigation involving LexisNexis, including older FCRA class actions, was not verified from primary dockets for this profile and is not described.

Box 105108, Atlanta, GA 30348-5108. After an online request it mails a letter explaining how to view the report online. If an insurer sent you an adverse action letter, the consumer site gives 1-800-456-6004 for the related information.

How do I dispute an error in my LexisNexis file?

The company's Description of Procedure says a dispute involves contacting the source of the data, a reinvestigation with that source, and a notice of the results mailed to you, including the source's name and contact details. The FCRA summary on its site says inaccurate, incomplete or unverifiable information must be corrected or removed, usually within 30 days. The CFPB advises putting the dispute in writing with copies of supporting documents. The company's Consumer Support contact page for disputing information in your file gives P.O. A separate online dispute form was not identified on the consumer-site pages checked on October 6-7, 2026.

Does a LexisNexis security freeze cost anything, and does it cover other bureaus?

LexisNexis says it offers security freezes and lifts them free of charge, and that a freeze requested through its portal applies only at LexisNexis Risk Solutions, not at TransUnion, Equifax, Experian or Innovis. Requests go online, by phone at 1-800-456-1244 or by mail to P.O. Box 105108, Atlanta, GA 30348-5108. LexisNexis Risk Solutions Inc. is a defendant and has answered the amended complaint; the court granted in part and denied in part motions to dismiss on April 22, 2026.
