Horrible customer service, a ripoff beyond belief

I bought a used 2002 GMC Sierra King Cab long bed pickup truck from a reputable used car dealership. The truck had a dash that rattled and the yellow check engine light had come on prior to me taking posession of the vehicle.

The vehicle was still under it's bumper to bumper factory warranty. The dealership that I bought the vehicle from said that they would take it to Ernie Swanson's GMC dealership and have those items fixed. I volunteered to drop the vehicle off since it was close to me home. That is where I made my mistake. I should have taken the vehicle to any other GMC dealership.

It took them 4 days to fix the two minor problems. One, the check engine light issue, they tried to tell me that I physically opened up the hood and unplugged something and that was what was setting off the light. Two, it took them 3 days to tighten the screws on the dashboard.

I informed them that it was impossible that I had unplugged anything in the truck since the first place it went after the purchase was straight to that dealerhsip and I had the bill of sale to prove it.

During this entire battle I had asked to speak to service managers, sales managers, and even the general manager to address this issue but AMAZINGLY none of those people were working during the time that they held my vehicle captive.

I also called various other GMC dealerships and talked with the service managers and general managers and they all said the same thing, it should be covered under your warranty.

At this time the only option that Ernie Swanson's would allow was for me to pay for the services in order for them to give my vehicle back to me.

The company I bought the truck from even insisted that they pay for the costs that I had accrued during this ordeal. GMC corporate customer service sent me a gift certificate for $200.00 because of the extremely unprofessional and criminal way that the franchised dealership treated me.

I have purchased four brand new GMC manufactured vehicles in the past four years and I felt that this GMC dealership was completely disloyal to such a faithful customer and should not even be given the right to call themselves a GMC dealer if they are not going to hold themselves to GMC's high standard of quality and excellent customer service.

I found out during this ordeal that Darrell, the service person which would not release my vehicle, talked rudely to me, and charged me the $80.00 to fix my "under warranty" vehicle had a personal dislike for someone at the dealership that I bought the truck from. I felt like I was in the middle of someone's personal issue and I was paying the price.

In short, I would not purchase or service any vehicle of mine at such an unreputable dealership. I did get excellent customer service and advice during this time from the Win Kelly GMC dealer in Clarksville, MD. I would recommend them instead.
