I looked in the yellow pages for a place to buy a starter. Smart starts add besides selling the part also said "home of the free install"
I called start mart for a price to install a new starter on my 1987 suburban. A young lady by the name of amber, who is no longer there, told me it would be $59.95 installed.
My wife went their shop and was asked to sign a release saying that if there are any obstructions that would hinder the installation process, there would be an additional charge.
My wife called e and asked if i thought there would be any obstructions and just having been under the truck myself to see if there might be a loose connection told her there was not an obstruction and to sign the release which they told her had to be signed prior to the work being done.
When they were done they told her the bill is $93.00. A far cry from the $59.95 quote i received.
I called the better business bureau and they told me there have been several complaints about this company.
I called the store and low-and-behold got the district manager, dewey bennett. I told him about my complaint and asked if there was anything he was going to do about it.
He said he was not. He said my wife signed the "contract" and the work was done; end of story.
My suggestion to anyone who needs a starter or alternator is do not use start mart or any of their other registered trademarks (auto zip, checkered flag or schuckmans)
