Mitsubishi Motor Credit
Ripoff, leases, automobile

Where to begin when you're talking about Mitsubishi Motor Credit - first, we purchased our 6 yr. Old lease vehicle for almost $13,000. Far too much money, but our problem.in the process of the buy out, we had specific directions from Mitsubishi, which we follwed to a 't.' First, we were told that it might take several months before we'd know whether we were due a refund or owed for property tax. Several months later, we received a refund and thought that was the end of having to deal with MMC.

A short time later, we received a bill for $126.89. Not sure what this was about since we'd received the refund, I called MMC. It seemed they were trying to bill us for property tax several months after purchasing the lease and after receiving a rebate. It didn't make sense to us or the rep I dealt with. We were told that it might take time to update the status of the account, so let the bills come in for a little while and they'll stop.

Well, they didn't stop coming in so I made a second call. At this point, we discovered that they'd been reporting the payment as delinquent to credit agencies! We have absolutely perfect credit, so this was very upsetting, especially given the fact that MMC TOLD US TO LET THE BILLS COME IN! The service rep I spoke with indicated that she would research the amount in question because no one could figure out where it was coming from. Again, I was told to ignore the bills until I heard back from MMC. We were supposed to get a call when the research was complete, but we never did.

In March of I received a letter from MMC stating "Account closed/paid as agreed, with no previous deliquency." This letter was also sent to the credit agencies to which they report. It looked as if the problem was resolved. We continued receiving the $126.89 bill for a couple of months, so I (not MMC - still no call from them) followed up. This time I worked with the worst customer service rep I've ever dealt with! She didn't care what letter I'd received, the payment was still due. However, she too couldn't explain why we'd received a refund and where the additional tax bill was coming from. This is when I found out that MMC was AGAIN reporting delinquent payments to the credit bureau! Of course, this bothered me more than the tax bill, which I'd rather pay and resolve later than have a bad credit mark.

This individual also wanted to research the problem and promised to contact me that afternoon or the following day. Again, no contact from MMC. Four weeks later I called back and was told that I'd hear something that evening. No call, so I called the following day. Remember, never to mmc contact me; i initiated every call. On August 3 (2 yrs. After the lease end), I was told the status of the issue. It seemed that I might have owed the money, but even MMC was confused by the whole tax situation.

Still not completely confident that I owed the money and obviously MMC dropped the ball after sending a refund followed by a bill, I was willing to pay it to have the rating removed from my credit. However, NO CAN DO! This rep held the reins and as she said "her decision was final." It didn't matter that MMC TOLD US to ignore the bill until THEY FIGURED OUT what was going on, plus they sent us and the credit agencies a letter indicating that the account was paid and closed. Everything THEY instructed us to do also is irrelevant to them. They are not going to change what they reported to the credit agency.

We've had problems, as have others, with Mitsubishi and MMC from day one! Now, because they dropped the ball, we have to suffer the consequences (long-term). Our credit was FLAWLESS until this incident over $126.89!!! We would have never just ignored a bill, esp. one this small, if not instructed to do so! I'm sick and tired of companies like MMC not owning up to and taking responsibilty for their lack of customer service and the consumer having to pay the costs!

I advise all to think very carefully before doing business with Mitsubishi.in my opinion they are irresponsible, unprofessional, and don't know what is going on in their own departments.
