I took my 95 ford windstar into Able Auto on Thursday July 29th because of and oil leek. I was told they would find the leak today but probaly not be able to fix it untill tomorrow, that was fine I left van and went home. That evening I called at about 4:30pm (they close at 5) they had not got a chance to look at it. O.K. First thing in the morning they told me.
The next day (Friday) I called them at about 3:00pm (they were suppose to call me when they knew something but are not open on Saturdays). I was told that they had completed a dye test and and knew what was leaking, an $11.00 part that would have to be replaced.
Great I thought till he went on to tell me that they had to power wash the engine and with the dye test and an oil change the total would be $210.00!! For a power wash I thought?
Fix it then I told them. Called back at 4:30pm to let them know I was on my way to pick the van up and the price now had jumped from $220.00 to $650.00 now the van also needs a oil pump and gasket. Are those 2 things the dye test had not detected were leaking or do I just have Idiot across my forhead? I did tell them to put my van back together and I'll find someone else to put the oil pump in so now having to wait till Monday morning to get the vehicle back no telling what they'll have destroyed for me by then.
I do want to add that I had stopped taking my vehicles there because of a previous incident where I had a leak, took it to them to get an estimate and it ended up costing me $320.00 for a computer diagnostic. Nothing else, just a test they never even asked if I wanted. It's not easy for a single mother to find a honest mechenic and I've yet to do so.
