Complete rip-off scam artists! Quoted one price and time for work, charged double and twice as long!

My Ford Freestyle was having transmission problems (again). We first took it to the Ford Dealership for diagnostics, was told I needed to replace the transmission for $5000. I had already had one transmission replaced by Ford and did not want to spend the $5000 again.

My husband called around to several Transmission places. He spoke to Perry at Mr. Transmission who told him they could rebuild it for $2,000 and it would take 2-3 days. My husband confirmed it would only be $2,000 and would only take 2-3 days, since I needed to go out of state on the weekend. Perry told him definitely, no problem. We dropped the car off at opening on Monday morning.

On Tuesday, my husband received a call from Perry telling him that there was more extensive repair needed and it would cost additional $ for the part. He also told my husband that he needed a credit card number on file to hold. He explained that they had problems with customers not picking up vehicles that they had serviced. He told my husband the card WOULD NOT be charged, just held. He also still assured us it would be completed in the next day or two.

On Wednesday, my husband called and spoke to Ray, who did not want to answer any questions when he inquired on the car. He tried everything to get my husband off the phone. My husband finally asked to speak with Perry and was told it should be completed by Thursday, end of the day, at the latest.

When Thursday came and we received NO phone call, my husband again called them to find out when the car would be done. He was told that they needed to do a "test drive" and would have it to us on Friday. My husband was furious and asked why they wouldn't have it done "today" when they told us it would be and originally told 2-3 days. He explained again that I needed the car to drive out of state. They told him to have me rent a car. They did not care that we were upset and did not try to resolve the situation. They gave no explanation for the delay.

At this point, they had CHARGED my credit card for over $4,000. Not a hold, but an actual transaction that was processed. When my husband asked Perry why the card had been charged, he acted "surprised" and said that shouldn't have happened. But, he did not offer to take the charges off. And said, "it is only supposed to be a hold. Are you sure it was charged?" It was definetly a completed transaction.

As Friday came and went, we still heard nothing from Mr. Transmission. At the end of business day, my husband tried calling them again. He was told by Perry that the converter was out of balance and they needed a new one. They would have the car to us on Saturday. On Saturday, still no phone call from Mr. Transmission. When my husband called on Saturday, he was given no details, but told they were "still working on it" and it would be ready on Monday.

After not hearing anything on Monday, my husband again called Mr. Transmission at 3 pm. He was greeted rudely by the OWNER, Ray Polson. My husband was hung up on several times before Ray would speak with him. He asked Ray repeatedly, "When will my car be ready???" Ray told my husband that he didn't understand transmission work, etc etc. My husband asked Ray why they would quote 2-3 days and it was now on the 8th day and we still had NO IDEA when the work would be completed and for twice the amount quoted.

My husband explained day by day what we were told and quoted, that we had been charged $4,018 for the work already and we needed to know when the car was going to be ready. Ray also "acted surprised" about the credit card charge, but had no concern. My husband asked him, "Is this how you normally do business? I can't imagine that you would stay in business if you do." Ray again displayed no concern and offered nothing to resolve our situation. My husband asked him to call us before close to see where the car was at.

At 5:30 pm on Monday, we still hadn't gotten any calls from Mr. Transmission. My husband once again called them and was told "oh yeah, your car is done. You can come pick it up now." We went right over to get it. We were never once offered an apology for the service we received or any explanation on the additional charges. They had already charged us $4018 and then asked us for a signature.

As I drove off the lot, the car felt sluggish to me and slipped in certain gears. My husband drove it to work last night and this morning, the car WOULD NOT start. He was able to get it jump started and took it to the Ford dealership for diagnostics. So far, we were told we need a new battery that was probably drained... I am fearful to drive this car now.

I feel completely robbed by this company and the owner, Alan Polsen. I have since done extensive research and found that this man is a complete CON ARTIST and assumes multiple names, businesses, and has repeated this type of situation at least 32 times. There are numerous court files against him, bbb reports filed, etc.

Please someone explain to me how this man is still able to do business in the State of Georgia??? Action needs to be taken against him and the Mr. Transmission company. We have also contacted Mr. Transmission corporate office and was basically told that each location is a franchise and the way they handle their business is completely up to the owner's discretion. The only recourse I have is to file this complaint and hope that NO ONE ever does business with him again! He is very unscrupulous and deceiptful.
