Brake Check
Ripoff brake job just about ruined my truck

July 14th my brakes were squealing and I took my 97 ford truck to Brake Check for a pad replacement. They also found the cylinders on the back wheels leaking brake fluid. The pads were worn and after inspecting the brakes a pad replacement and new wheel cylinders were replaced for a total of $360.88.

I left only to return again after the right front wheel starting stinking and was hot to the touch. The truck was also pulling to one side. Brake Check put the truck back on the lift and adjusted the right front brake.

1358 miles or 3 months later the front left wheel overheated and started stinking. I pulled into the first brake business I came to. (Not Brake Check) Once the truck was on the lift I was told that the left front wheel would not turn at all. The wheel was locked up. The pad, cylinder and piston were burnt and the alloy wheel was discolored. Total repair was $736.

I contacted Brake Check and was told to bring the parts to Joe at the Brake Check on Rundberg and Lamar. He looked at the parts and offered to refund me the cost of the pads. At my dissatisfaction I was given the phone number to Bill Robb and told he would call me within a couple of days.

I received a call from someone else telling my that I had driven the truck for 3 months and Brake Check was not responsible for the locked up wheel or damages.in my opinion 3 months or 1358 miles in no way comes close to a lifetime warranty. I rarely drive a vehicle over 25 miles per trip.

It was a very dangerous situation to my safety driving a vehicle with a locked up wheel not to mention the hardship to my engine and transmission when this happened. My truck is a V8 and it felt like I was towing a house without a trailer.

The worst thing is trusting a business to do a thorough check of a system and, if there was an underlying problem, they were not skilled enough to catch it. They had the brakes adjusted too tight and they did a job that a total amateur would be ashamed of.

I recently got a letter from Brake Check thanking me for choosing Brake Check, apologizing for my inconvenience, and hoping that they demonstated to me that they cared. It was signed by Joe Lattanzio with the phone number 512 388 1107.

I called him back and told him how my case was not resolved and that I was not a satisfied customer. What I got from him was that someone else signed the cover letter and he worked at a different shop.

Ripped Off? You bet. I'll never go back. But next I'll write the BBB and then contact Channel 7 On Your Side. I'm going to try to get a refund. At the least I'm going to expose this shoddy brake place to as many people as I can. Don't go to Brake Check. They don't take responsibility for their mistakes and they are a bunch of empty words as far as caring about their customers.
