Mail theft

Dear Postmaster Mr. Jack Potter Nov. 30/ 2010

Since I can remember my brothers and I have been saving up our money to purchase a gift for my mother. I, myself being the eldest, worked and set money aside, but since my brothers are younger they didn’t work, but instead they put all the money that they receive as gifts for their birthdays and the holidays aside into a savings account to purchase the diamond for our Mother. This was going to be a very special gift that my brothers and I were going to give to my mother, because she never had a wedding ring for 25 year of marriage. When we had saved up the entire amount, which was twelve thousand dollars ($12,000.00), we gave the money to my father and had asked him to purchase the diamond for us, because he is a member of GIA and he can purchase the Diamond up to 50% wholesale. Since my parents are going to be renewing their wedding vows for their 25th wedding anniversary on Christmas Eve, we felt it was the right time to get the diamond. As I had said we gave the money to my father and asked him to purchase the diamond. And so he did, but when we received the diamond it was not what was mentioned as described in the certificate. The color of the diamond was off. So we decided to send it back and get a refund of the money to purchase a better diamond. So we emailed the Diamond Floor Co. And told them of the situation and asked for the address that we had to send it back. When they emailed us back, we promptly went to the post office on November 04 and sent it to the address that they gave us. We even used express overnight shipment. The post office had guaranteed us, that they would have it delivered by 10:30 am of the next day, plus we required it to have a signature. Since we have used the express overnight shipment before, and we never had problems, it never crossed our minds or made us think twice to have the package insured. Plus the post office employee never asked us if we needed insurance for the package. This happened the 4th of November and till this date (November 30) the Diamond Floor Co. (212) 575-7962 ex. 23 Diana Sadel, in New York City has not received the package. My father called the New York Post Office (212-502-0420,212-502-0440,212-502-0422) several times and they told him that Mr. Batista would get into contact with him and find out where the package is. We never received a call or even an email from him. My father also called the postal inspector and opened a case, but we had no luck with them either. The post office did send us a check for one hundred dollars. We plan on sending the check back to you. We are really upset with this situation, for the fact that the post office did not did their job properly, with my item, but also with the fact that I was going to make my Mothers DREAM come true and for her to finally have a diamond wedding ring. My brothers and I are determined to get to the bottom of this and we are asking you, to please help us and find out what happened to the package and how we can figure this all out. I am considering this grand theft and it is something very seriously, that will be dealt with and the people who committed this crime, will have their punishment. But all we ask, is for you to just put yourself in our position and just imagine, giving your mother the one gift, that she has always wanted and then having it slipped away from your hands because of some unlawful and greedy human beings. Please find the kindness in your heart and help.

With much hope
