This letter not only represents us but also 8 other people who have dealt with this mob. This is just one of our stories:
Our car engine blew up and needed to be rebuilt. At the same time we had a new clutch installed, major service done and new radiator top tank. It amounted to over AU$6,000. At the time we brought the car in, the only thing wrong was the radiator, clutch and damage to engine from busted radiator and subsequent over-heating.
When we picked the car up, we noticed the engine check light on and were told to 'just drive it, it may just turn off'. 6mths or so later, it was still on and now due for a service.in the meantime, we noticed a noise coming from the gearbox that we never had before.
The exhaust had a minor hole in it but nothing too major and not on our list of priorities. We were told the engine check light was from something that Subaru say they have never seen fail.in fact, they hardly even knew what it was. They told us they could not hear any noise from the gearbox and is most likely the exhaust.
They did a service which cost us over $600 most of which was to diagnose the problem with the engine check light... The one that wasn't on when we took the car in the first time. We picked the car up still with the engine running terribly and no fix with a AU$600 plus bill to pay. The total paid now - almost $7000!
We just took the car to a Subaru dealer and have been told the work done on the car previously was shonky at best. The gearbox seems to have had the wrong oil in it which has worn the 'syncros' meaning the gearbox now needs to be rebuilt and had a bolt missing.
The clutch is noisy and we will not know the cause until they pull it apart. Being it is a new clutch, it should be fine and we were told it was an STi clutch which we are told there is no way it is - by Subaru. There are guards from inside the engine bay that were never put back in with the engine after it was rebuilt such as the fan belt guards etc.
The brake master cylinder was hanging off the brake booster and there was a vacuum hose missing altogether and ones that were connect to the wrong place meaning the car was losing vacuum and running very rough. This was not picked up on by them when taken in to fix the car the last time. They did not machine our brakes as requested when taken back in the last time.
The front caster bushes and CVs were badly worn which were apparently replaced. They do work without asking people if its ok and one woman we know has had an absolute nightmare with them giving her car back with problems and more than when it went in and has the same issue with them and the engine check light on.
There are plenty of people around Lismore to do the job for you people. DO NOT take you car to GT Automotive and that rude bastard Geoff. They are nice as pie until you have a complaint. Although they used to have a great name, their quality of service and duty of care is now null and void. You will not get your monies worth and the car will leave their worse than when it went in. They will blame you for it of course and proving different will be harder than one would hope.
The bottom line really should be that NO car should ever leave any workshop with the engine check light on... NEVER! One should never be told 'drive it and it may fix itself'. What sort of crap advice is that? If it wasn't broken when it went in they should fix it. POINT BLANK! They didnt even put it back together properly!
We have now gone and spent another $4,300 fixing their crap. That's AU$11,400 so far just to do a clutch and rebuild the top end. We could have/should have, just bought another car.
