Complaint / Review
Toyota Of Dallas
Financing scam, liars, unprofessionalism, threats

We purchased a car from Toyota of Dallas back on March 19, with the help of a co-signer due to our credit problems.

The deal was finished and all the contracts were signed and we had possession of the vehicle. We were told multiple times by the salesman and the sales manager and finance people that our deal was finished and the car was ours.

The dealership called us back on March 28 to tell us that we needed to come back in and re-do the paperwork because there was a problem with our financing. They said that all the paperwork had to be re-done and resubmitted for approval.

We told them that our part of the deal was done and that we were sorry that they had a problem but we would not be returning. My husband mentioned to them that it sounded like they were trying to pull what is known as a "Spot Delivery Scam" (do a search for this on google - you'll find plenty of info on this scam) on us and all hell broke loose.

They started claiming that there was no deal and that they would need the car back immediately. We told them that we would not be returning anything until our attorney had a chance to review all of the contracts. My husband returned to the dealership to pick up our copies of the contract and the dealership refused to hand them over.

They even went so far as to offer to rip up the contract right in front of him. He refused. Then they started threatening to report our new vehicle as stolen and have us arrested. (Which would be filing a false police report.) They also threatened to have the vehicle repossessed. (Which would be theft.)

Our attorney contacted them on Monday and requested the copies of our contracts. They only sent the form that was their "deal-breaker". It was a conditional sales agreement. Our attorney noticed on the paperwork that our co-signer was listed as the primary purchaser and we were listed as the co-signer.

It turns out that this is all part of the scam. The dealership intentionally fills out the paperwork incorrectly so they can get you back in to the dealership to re-sign everything. When they get you back in to sign everything again, they will try to raise the interest rate, the down payment, or the monthly payments in order for them to make more money off of the deal.

The dealerships will usually try to pull this scam on people with bad credit because they know that they will usually be willing to do anything to get the new vehicle. Apparently people like us are more desperate.

They are definitely not used to people fighting back.

Over this entire ordeal, we have received threatening phone calls from their finance managers. They have threatened multiple times to take the car from us.

The employees of Toyota of Dallas are liars, thieves, and bullies. I wouln't recommend their services to anyone. We were completely 100% honest with them throughout the whole deal and they tried to scam us. Unfortunately for them they got caught.
