I applied for a job at a Toyota dealership called Grossinger Toyota North in Lincolnwood, IL and was invited to come for an "open interview" between the times of 10am-6pm. I got there around Noon, wrote my name on a list of people to be interviewed and waited 4 hours in the lobby before I was interviewed.
Sam Baker, the man who interviewed me, was an older but energetic man who asked me more questions about my personality than work experience. It went well and he said "I want you here tomorrow for training!" I asked what the compensation structure would be like, but he insisted that I come the next day and he will go over all of that. He mentioned there would be a tuition for training, but it would be reimbursed over time.
He also told me that I was one of the top individuals he was choosing from 60 people yesterday and 20 so far today. Before I left, he asked me to write a paragraph on why I am better than the three he chose yesterday and today. After that I went home excitedly because I was offered a job and was going to start training the next day!
At 9:20am the next day he stalled until more people showed up late, and made us guess facts about him for about an hour! Hardly great training. We eventually got some sales training but I found that most of it was common sense!
At the end of the day we had to have an exit interview. When I stepped into the office, he asked are you going to be here tomorrow? I said yes. Then he asked how I would be paying the $700 tuition the next day? I told him by credit card and left the office.
As soon as I left, I looked this guy up on the internet and found out how many others have been a victim to this guy! He makes you pay $700 for a shitty 2 days training only to realize that you are NOT guaranteed a job!
Another thing: I expected to be one of a FEW new associates in training, since Sam did say that I was one of the few good ones he chose. However, this was not the case... There were over 35 individuals in the small lunch room without an adequate number of chairs/tables. Also, in the interview he made no mention that we would be placed at different dealers, not the one we were at.
Luckily I found this information before paying at "Tuition Fee" or should I say "Scam Fee". I feel sorry for those who have paid that bogus fee and did not get a job out of it.
FYI: You should NEVER have to pay for job training! YOU are making the company money! They should invest in you!
STAY AWAY FROM GROSSINGER TOYOTA NORTH and any of Grossinger's dealers! Stay away from sam baker!
