Mechanics Damaged My Radiator While Replacing Thermostat And Then Charged MeTo Fix Their Mistake

On January 20 I took my car to Vito at Lovers Lane European Automotive to have the thermostat replaced. They made the repair, and told me things were fine and they checked for leaks to the cooling system. Later that week, I had to replace some coolant in the system. I had already spent $450.00 to replace the thermostat and coolant in the car.

On February 4 I discovered there was radiator coolant where the car was parked after my wife left for work. I called Vito at Lovers Lane European Automotive and told him that there was now a coolant leak. I told him that this was obviously from an incorrect repair and that I was returning the car for them to fix their mistake. They allegedly guarantee their work.

When I got a call from Jorg, not Vito (the other owner) saying the hose connection where the thermostat connects to the radiator was damaged, and that the connection to the radiator (this hose MUST be taken off the radiator and the thermostat in order to replace the thermostat) was also damaged and were both replaced I was quite upset. They made a mistake, and my car engine could have been ruined due to their mistake.

That is before they told me that I owed them $725 for the repairs. Then, I was Furious. Not only did these mechanics screw up my car, they charged me to fix their screw up. This is typical of a shady mechanic. These guys are supposed to have a great reputation.

When they charged me to make a repair that should be covered by the "implied" (not in writing) warranty on their work, I was furious. Now I know why the second call came from the other owner. They did not want to take responsibility for their screw up, and decided to do the old bait and switch.

I have a bit of advice for BMW owners in Dallas: If you ever have a problem develop with your car right after a repair is made, take your car to another mechanic, and never go back to that first mechanic. Also, Do Not Take Your Car to Lovers Lane European Automotive. Their reputation for honest doesn't hold water any better than my radiator did after they replaced the thermostat.
