Ripoff

I subscribed to the Carfax service back in November. I opted for unlimited searches over a thirty-day period. I found their information unreliable/useless. I do understand that MUCH of their information is only as accurate as the bureaus/agencies reporting to them. If that is the case, their service isn't very useful when you're trying to make an educated/informed decision before buying a used car. My mother bought a used car from my father-in-law in July. I did a title search for the hell of it on this car and found that according to Carfax, this transaction never happened. No record of a transfer in title. Immediately, I begin to question the accuracy of their reports. I searched an old Peugeot sedan I owned years ago. That car was vandalized and sold to the insurance company for scrap/salvage. Again, no record of a "salvage title" being given. When you're buying a used car, especially from a dubious source, accurate information is mandatory - not optional. Their information sources are not reliable nor accurate. Of course, it is impossible to get a human being on the phone when you dial their toll-free number. Every menu choice leads to a lengthier message option. Really frustrating. ALL communication MUST be done by e-mail. Well, I don't have time to wait for them to respond to me via e-mail when I have to decide on a car in the next day or two. All in all, I definitely would NOT recommend their services. A waste of time and money. TodBoston, Massachusetts
