10/14/02 My 1993 Mazda MX6 no longer wants to shift into gear... Any gear, I call my local Aamco to find out the average cost of replacing the WHOLE transmission."1200 sounds about right but we will need to see it and give it a diagnostic for $39.95 before I can give you an exact amount". So I got my car towed into the Aamco.
10/15/02 Get a call saying that after running an external diagnostic it was found that it would be a base price of $1285 which include $660 labor and IF it needs a torque converter it will be an extra $329. I request an estimate to be faxed, I get it with just these prices listed to the left of the estimate. I give my FL drivers license number to okay the proceedure of work. At this point I am happy that my car will be fixed.
10/16/02 Get a call again in the morning from Aamco. "Your car needs hard parts" HARD PARTS??? What on earth are hard parts? From then on I was being spoken to in some sort of language I had not encountered before... The new cost of repair... An extra $800."what do you want me to do" they asked. I was shocked. Then i was informed that I owe $660 for the car being torn down at this point!!! Then came the inevitable "Well we do have a financing program from Wells Fargo". What a bloomin coincidence... More money and a credit company standing infront of me open armed.
At this point my car sits hostage by these people and I have been forced to fill out a credit app which I know will more than likely get denied. This is a rip off by all means, no HARD parts expense had been talked about until the car was ripped apart. All I can say this is going to be a lesson learnt and I could slap myself for not getting to this site any sooner.
