My husband and I decided to try team driving in September. Since I already had a class b CDL we decided to try the Expediting Industry. Keith started checking the internet for expediting companies and put out several feelers with different companies. We were immeditately contacted by Expedite Soloutions. We explained that I had my CDL so only Keith would need to attend there "school" to obtain his. We were told that I would only have to attend orientation. We started with Expedite Soloutions Oct 2. The deal was we were suppose to recieve 52% of the truck earning, plus 100 percent of the fuel surcharge.
Expedite Soloutions does not tell you the rest until it is too late and you are contracted with them for a year. Then you are told they will be holding 10 to 30 percent of the fuel surcharge for a "savings account" as well as 10 to 30 percent of your 52% percent. They also require you to pay 25.00 a week for a financial advisor ($1250 a year). They require you to have a laptop and for those that don't the charge another $35.00 a week for this.
In the end the driver makes about 12 percent of the actual truck revenue. There were many weeks we ended having to pay Expedite Soloutions for working for working.
As for equippment the first truck we were assigned was in such poor condition we had to keep plastic over the floor as when it rained we had standing water in the floor. We consistantly had to find or call someone to"jumpstart" it. On one instance we filled our tanks at the Flying J in Greenville S.C., parked the truck in the parking lot, about 4 hours later we noticed a huge puddle of fuel under the truck with a rivet running down the parking lot under the other trucks, our truck had sprung a leak through the rust and dropped 27 gallons of fuel (we know it was 27 gallons as that the tanks were full when we parked it and was a little under 2/3 4 hours later).
We called owner Kyle Ochs and was told to run with it like that "just don't fill it above the leak". We refused as we were not only paying for this fuel but also this was a major violation. Bottom line Kyle had the tank sealed off for $35.00 and we had to run with one tank for the next 3 months. Oh yes, the second truck. Even nicer than the first on. Lets see, when it rained the truck was like a waterfall. However, better yet the truck had a major bulge on the front driver steer tire, we informed Kyle of the issue with the tire and once again we were told to run with it as it was.
We also have it in writing from the mechanic at the Bloomington, Il TA the brake drums were worn down to nothing and the shoes were cracked and worn that the truck was not safe to move. Owner states do not fix.
We finally had enough after 8 months of these truck issues, making no money (we were living on our savings from before we started with Expedite Soloutions) and being (even though we were suppose to be independant contractors, we could have no home time. (If you go home for more than 5 days they hold what little you make for an additional two weeks) we decided enough.
After quitting we received a letter from Expedite Soloutions saying we broke their contract by quiting and they were, us both for our CDL's. (I already had my CDL.) We received not final fuel surcharge check statement for the last 6 weeks nor were we paid for the last 6 weeks of pros. They also held the 6000 in the savings plan they required drivers to keep, and in addition to all of this which amounted to about 9000.00 they sent us a letter that read we haven't done a final accounting yet, but we're pretty sure your going to owe us $6995.00 it went on to explain we could just make them a check for half the amount or we could set up payments to a PFS for the full amount. No mention of the $9000. They owed us or final settlement. They also would not give us a 1099 for taxes for the time we drove with them.
Yes, deceit lies theft they all fit Expedite Soloution! Unfortunately we know many other couples who have had this same experience.
