JT of Classic Muscle Inc (refuses to give me his full legal name), agreed to assemble the top end of my son's 1970 Duster, install in the vehicle and get it to run. The engine's bottom end was already complete, out of the vehicle and so was the transmission.in other words this was an assembly job, not a re-build.
He then took it upon himself to patch holes in the floor pans. Not a big deal other than he had no authorization to do so, and claimed over 15 hours to do it. He then allegedly straightened the valve covers and oil pan. No authorization to do so. New covers and pan run about $150. His charge best I can tell is several hundred dollars.
His so called invoice showed "engine assembly" taking place over 10 days! The sheet metal patching (floor pans) two 4" squares took him over 10 hours.
When confronted he refused to break down the time spent for each task performed. He lumped several tasks together on his billing staement, making it impossible to discern which task took how long. Lots of stammering and double talk from this guy. Shaddy and shoddy personified. Stay away!
Bottom line: He charged $5000.00 to do what by anyone's measure is roughly $1500.00 of work.
