Of North Arlington Overcharged for a simple service!

12/4/07 I took my 1971 Ford Bronco to Kwik Kar in order to have them lengthen the 2 brake lines from my master cylinder to a distribution block that was mounted on the frame. This work needed to get done because of the new 2" body lift that I installed on the truck was stretching the existing brake lines more then I was comfortable with.

This is a simple request that included replacing 2 short brake lines, and then bleeding the brakes. I chose Kwik Kar because they were willing to look at it immediately.

When I got to the business at noon, I had a mechanic, who was referred to as a "Master Mechanic" look at the work that needed to be done. I was told by the manager that they could not quote a price, but I could count on the labor and parts being a small amount, because everyone agreed that this would be a simple job. They told me that they would be making the extended brake lines on site, so I would not have to wait for parts being ordered. I agreed to leave the truck there for the work to be done, confident that it was a simple job.

After work at 5:00pm, I returned to the business to chack on the progress of the vehicle to find the mechanic staring into the engine bay. The work appeared to be done. It was. The job looked nice, so I thanked him and went to pay for the service.

When I got in the the office, I was told that the mechanic had worked on this project non-stop until I arrived at 5:00pm. The mechanic had struggled with the "frozen" ends of the brake lines where they had connected to the distribution block. He also had to clean all of the rust out of the distribution block so that it wouldn't interfere with the braking system. It is important to note that my brakes worked great before I brought the vehicle into have the lines extended.

After all of this explanation, the manager hands me the bill for $341 to cover that parts and labor. I explained to him that the price was high for simply replacing 2 short brake lines, but he insisted that it was fair. I told him that $341 would cover the cost of rebuilding my motor and he strangely mentioned that the carberator on my motor costs around $600 alone. I began to worry about my truck getting parted out if I where to choose to fight with him over the bill, so I paid it and drove my truck home.

I won't ever do business with this company again. I hope that others who see this will think twice before having them do any work on their vehicles.
