I went to Tires PLus a year and some odd months ago to get some new tires for my Chevy Tahoe. When they got the truck on the rack, they informed me that my entire brake system was shot and would need to be replaced. They also said I needed front end work, new shocks, and a full tune-up. Being a woman, I knew they were trying to take me for a ride.
I grew up in a family of mechanics so I know a bit. I called my brother and went over the condition of the rotors, brake lines, and other parts. We both agreed it was needed, so I agreed to have the work done. I was quoted $800.00!!! I asked if there were any way to cut me a deal since I was going to be spending so much and paying cash. NO GO!
NExt, they informed me of several things that needed work, but I was smart enough and too broke to go that way. I agreed to let them repair my air conditioning, as it was legitimately broken.
So now my toital was up to $2200.00 and no discount in sight.
I sat there all day and waited for my truck to get fixed. The air was fine, the brakes felt good, and the tires were ok.
Now, not ever 1 week later, my brakes were smoking, on fire, and locking up on the rear end. IT seems the mechanic did not think to replace the brake hoses even thought I specifically made sure that was part of the total price. I called them and said I would be there first thing in the morning and I WAS ANGRY! I got a simple "we'll take care of it, but that's not ususally part of the brake package." Now, I am not stupid... YES FOR $800 that is included!
My truck went back to that shop monthly for the next year for those brakes. Squeeking, grinding, pulling, smoking... They still have not corrected the problem. I have taken it to another mechanic that I trust and he said that the brakes are destroyed from the use of cheap parts and poor workmanship and the front brakes alone will cost $800! Now, this is a man whom we have known for years and is trusted with Ferarris and the likes of those caliber cars. HE is a friend and trustoworthy. Why didn't we go to him to begin with? We could not afford him, and thought Tires PLus was the working man's mechanic.
I still have horrendous brake problems, not to mention a multitude of other nightmares they have caused. I can not afford to put any more money in this vehicle becuase of them. We have one car and two kids to drive around. This is unsafe and unfair. Help!!!
