Poor repair service to brake failure. Tried to scam for extra $860.00

My 2001 Mitsubishi Montero Limited had been making a chirping noise when ever the brakes are applied. There was nothing wrong with the brakes but the noise was a little annoying. I called JBA Chevrolet-Mitsubishi in Glen Burnie, MD to set an appointment for Monday 12th November to bring the truck in.

The shop supervisor Ronald Willard informed me that there will be a $94 diagnostic fee and they will let me know if there are any mechanical problems with the car or the breaks. My brother - in-law took it in as I had to work that day. The service shop called to tell me that the Brake accumulator needed to be changed since it controls the ABS (antilock brakes) and that the cost for Labour and parts would be $294.31. We asked (My brother in-law and I) if there was anything else wrong with the car apart from their diagnostic. We were told no that the car is fine except what they diagnosed. I gave the okay to fix the Brake accumulator and was told I could pick the car up the next day Tuesday 13th November.

My wife and my brother-in-law went to pick the car up. As my wife started to drive out, she applied the brakes to test it out and heard a scrapping noise coming from the brakes. She informed the supervisor that there was a scraping noise and she was told that the noise was coming from the suspension because the weather was cold. She was also told that she should give it 30 days and it would clear up, that it usually happens when suspensions are cold.

This is the car that I usually drive to work and I have never heard this noise before. This noise did not exist prior to brining the car to the JBA. I continued to drive the car to work with the hope that the noise will subside as the supervisor informed us. The noise became unbearable.

On the morning of the 29th of November I called JBA and informed them that the noise had not gone away as they informed us it would and that I would like to bring it in. I was told to bring it in the next day, Friday 30th November but that he thinks it is the suspension.

Driving it home on that Thursday, the breaks failed completely on the car. I got it safely home that day and got it to JBA the next morning. I told the supervisor about the problem and he still insisted that it was the suspension. He looked at me incredulously when I informed him that the breaks had completely failed. He told me he would look into it and call me later when they discover what was wrong.

The supervisor called me later that Friday evening and informed me that the R/F caliber, the rotors and the Brake pads need to be changed and that the cost for all that minus taxes will be $860.00. I asked the supervisor if they would pick up the charges for the repair since it was a new problem caused by their workmanship to one repair. He informed me that they would not pick up the charges that it was not there fault and that if I want I could sue the repair technician.
