This past week I took my car to Metric Motors in Anderson, CA for a simple tune up/belt check/oil change. After the work was done the mechanic test drove my car and came beck and told me my transmission was slipping, saying "but then I'm not telling you anything you don't already know". I assured him it had not been slipping and in fact was perfectly fine for the 30 odd miles I had been driving it everyday and was also, in fact, fine when I brought it in to them that morning.
He made it a point to mention it to everyone at hand that there must've been a problem before that. Even though he drove it into the service bay just fine and didn't say a word about that until AFTER he had finished working on it.
When I had paid and gone out to my car, I tried to drive off but the car didn't move at first and then suddenly lunged into first gear nearly causing me to hit the gate by which he had parked it. I went back inside, told them the problem and repeated the fact that there had been nothing wrong with the transmission before he had worked on the car.
He came out and looked under the hood, and as I reiterated the fact that it was fine when I brought it in, he said, and I do quote, "You've said that three times already. Repeating it isn't helping it's just pissing me off!". I repeated it again anyway, mostly out of anger at his comment and the way I was being treated after having just given them $200 to have my car messed up.
Then he said, still quoting here "well, everything takes a sh*t at some point". I assume he meant that it is merely a coincidence that the transmission went from fine to ruined after he had tinkered with my car. But then again it's hard to know exactly what that comment meant; eloquent and articulate he was not.
Another mechanic ran tests of the computer codes on the car and NO errors came up in the transmission - proving that nothing had been wrong with it and the problem was the mechanic not the car.
I was finally told that I could take it to a transmission shop and if he had done anything they'll tell him and he'll stand behind his work. I must admit I would rather have him stand in FRONT of the car as it now lunges into gear! There were NO apologies, no concern for me as a customer once they had my money, no consideration for the unknown added expense and time and inconvenience I must now go through to be without my car another day, or longer so someplace else can try to correct what he did.
I, like most everyone else, cannot afford to be without my car. I have 2 children, one with special needs and there are therapies she must go to. I am just sick and tired of running into people and businesses like Metric Motors, who do a poor job or sell a faulty product and then try to lie and swindle their way out of what they are responsible for.
