I purchased a 1994 Nissan Sentra in March. Just as many of the other complaints, my credit situation is nothing to brag about. When I walked in the Ugly Duckling I was told to look around the lot, and when I chose the car of my choice, I was told my credit situation disallowed approval for the more reliable and newer vehicles.
I went ahead and settled for the 94 Nissan because I had a job and two small children and the most important thing was getting to work to feed them. A few days after driving it off of the lot, I noticed a leak. It was an oil leak and I freaked!
I was given what I thought to be sound advice prior to leaving the lot advising me to check the oil once a week and remember to keep oil in the car. Little did I know, they were actually preparing me for the leak that I would soon discover.
Not only that, a few months later the alternator went out, and I had to pay to fix the brakes, the alignment, etc. Since March I have paid close to $2,000 for repairs on my vehicle. I know that the car is purchased "as is", but there are lemon laws that protect us as consumers, and believe me Ugly Duckling has violated a few.
First of all, they tell you that repairs are made and although they are selling the car to you as is, they verbally promise that the car you are purchasing is reliable and will not put you into financial hardship. Not only that, there is lack of communication in Ugly Duckling. They will continue to harass you day in and out prior to the payment being due.
They say that this is to protect the company's interest. I say that the harassment should begin only if you are late, and they should not discuss your personal business with just anyone who answers the phone and they should know that if you request to have them to stop calling you so much, they should honor that too.
I am not here to badger any of the people at Ugly Duckling. These are just true facts. I hope that screwing people over causes the employees to evaluate their characters and ask whether or not this is what they want to present as individuals.
