I purchased a 05 dodge stratus sxt from Kent Hallum at Hallum Motors in Marion Ar on 8/28/05 the car was to have had 1 owner, and had 6370 miles roughly.
3 days after I bought the car I found that the horn did not work, and the windshield fluid tank was broke. Also when it rained the car leaked water. I call Mr. Hallum who told me again the car was under factory warranty to take it to a Dodge dealer.
I took the car to Fletcher Dodge in Jonesboro Ar, they informed the car was not under warranty because it had been wrecked... They even put those facts in writting. I again notifed mr. Hallum, who assured me they were mistaken and that he would fix it. (which i am still waiting on him to do).
On december 16,29 2005 i had 2 flats on the rear of the car at the same time, the tires which had been new when i bought the car where down to the wires. I bought 2 new tires, and had the car aligned. Feb 13 the 2 new tires where down to the wire again, I again contacted Mr. Hallum, who told me he would fix the problem. He told me he could get me out of the car, that a man in florida named Jackie, with Jackies Auto Sales had sold him a bad car.
For 3 weeks I waited for him to find me the right car, he just kept blowing me off. I took the car to 4 frame and bodyshops, after the tire guy told me hey your car has been in a really bad wreck. I found that the car had sustained severe body damage to roof, right front and right rear, and that there were hammer marks and weld marks where the car had had its frame worked on. The control rocker arm is 2" into the wheel well, according to documents... So I started investigating the matter.
I found by pulling a 2nd car fax, that since i bought the car Carfax had added some important information on the car. It was wreck (VERY SEVERE DAMAGE RT FRONT RT REAR AND ROOF) according to the new revised report, funny thing is the car still showed to have a clean title. The orginal car fax i have from date of purchase shows nothing.
So i called the rental car company a division of Vanguard leasing, they faxed me a copy of the recondition report, and invoice of sale to Jackie Auto Sale in florida. The car sustained $8,000.00 worth of visable damage on 5/3/05. The car was worked on in florida and sold to me in arkansas. The car was sold by Vanguard leasing on a website called salvagenow.com HMMM also interesting is that the recondidtion reports from Vanguard leasing say SALVAGE all over them.
I also managed to get a copy of the invoice where Hallum bought the car from Jackies it is a signed leagally binding document that states clearly at the top the Hallum was buying a car with body and frame damage, you know what he told me... He said that the car had been backed into on the car lot and had right front quarter panel replaced, no big deal.
He was deceptive in his trade practice, and he still sells cars on line at ebay and if you look at the website that ERic Morton created www.screwedbyhallummotors.com, you will see that is not just me he has done this way.
I turned him into the arkansas attorney general office, and the arkansas state police divion of used cars (john chappelle) they are still investigating him, but the ag office says i have to sue him... I thinks that is criminal. I owe 21k on a car worth 1K.
I was ripped off and i cant do a thing about it. He wont even take my calls anymore, by the way the website i mentoned is locked because per a phone conversation with Mr Morton mr Hallum paid him 3000.00 to get him to take it off the web because it was costing him big time. I have nothing to gain but I refuse to stand by an let this company and mr hallum keep on ripping people off. If you have been taken by this man i urge you to call the state police in little rock ar, and demand they look into it.
