My car was towed to this station by AAA on July 16 because of a broken timing belt. I was on my way home from work. When the tow truck came I requested to be driven closer to my home since it was inconvenient for me to have the car in New Hyde Park.
I was told it couldn't be done and they towed me to New Hyde Park Amoco at N. 2nd Street & Jericho Turnpike. It cost me $35.00 in car service to get home from there. They checked my car the next day and told me I needed a timing belt and convinced me that I needed a water pump and new belts. I agreed to the repairs and was told the bill was $276.67.
I paid by credit card because they would not accept a check. Upon driving the car home I noticed it was not running smoothly and I called the station immediately the next morning to tell them I was going to bring the car back to be adjusted. Because of work I couldn't get back there until July 30th.
I wanted to bring the car somewhere else because I didn't like these people but I was told I should bring it back to where the work was done so they can make the adjustment and not charge me. I went to the station with the itemized bill ($276.67) so they could see what work was done.
I gave "John" my keys and he looked at the bill and told me I wasn't charged enough the first time. I told him I paid what I owed and that was what they told me I owed. I didn't dispute the amount of $276.67; he continued to tell me I should have paid over $400.00. He had my keys, and wouldn't give me them back until I paid an additional $174.03; they did nothing to my car and it is still running rough. I wrote to AAA Executive Offices and filed a formal complaint, and I wrote to BP Petroleum (Amoco Oil) to file a complaint with them as well. I also called my credit card company to "dispute the transaction" and that is being worked on as we speak.
I want everyone to know what type of business establishment New Hyde Park Amoco (aka -T.N.T. Automotive Corp) is and how they treat customers. They do very bad work, they rip customers off and they should not be allowed to continue to run a gas station or a car repair station.
