Contractor promised $11,000 project with written estimate and 6 month time frame. Withdrew estimate after car was totally disassembled and paint was stripped.
After a total of 20 months and numerous instances in which sole propreiter Douglas Hammel, could not substantiale hours invoiced or specific work performed, project was delivered at $72,000.
Contractor promised perfect concours vehicle meeting national standards. Upon delivery, he commented it was the "best" he could do. National standards document a maximum of 1500 hours for full restorations while this one was only a partial project due to the fact that the frame and drivetrain were previously completed and no sheetmetal needed to be replaced.
The total shop hours billed were 2089. Two other consumers had similar experiences, one simultaneous. The contractor would not finish or release the vehicle without me signing statments of work acceptance.
