Auto Transport, Inc. (possible AKA CDI Transport) of Houston was hired to move my Jeep from Arkansas to Pennsylvania. This was done through a reputable online moving service.
The driver, upon pickup, recognized a problem with the canvas soft top but failed to correct it or contact me; instead he loaded it and drove off. The Jeep's top, being on the high level of the car carrier, was torn apart by the high speed wind. The driver noticed the ensuing damage but kept driving at speeds in excess of 75mph (his words, not mine).
The driver's supervisor, Scott Deinum, refused to accept any responsibility on behalf of the company and was uncooperative at filing an insurance claim. Such vehicle transporters are required by law to be insured... But that didn't seem to help in this case.
When I contacted the insurance company directly (USI Southwest, Inc., of Dallas) they would not provide any further help, but took the side of the transport company.
The damage cost $391 to repair.
If hiring a car mover, you may go through an online service (as I did) who will then subcontract the actual move to another company.in my case, I got stuck with a lousy company like Auto Transport, Inc. You may want to request that you get a different one that has a better reputation.
I am currently seeking restitution, but will be happy just to know that others will be forewarned of how Auto Transport does business, and avoid them.
