Tore motor down without permission, threatened to leave town if I called police to help me retrieve my vehicle mistreated and ripped off

My son just started college in a new town, his truck overheated. I called his school and asked for the name of a mechanic I could have look at it. I was given D & D Service Center. I paid $1128.28 for repairs made to the vehicle by them.in a few weeks when my son started home (Friday), he had trouble. I phoned D&D the following day and they advised me to have a mechanic in Lewisburg check it out, then to bring it back to them when he returned to Mckenzie the following Monday.

My mechanic said it was a problem with the manifold but it would be ok to drive back to McKenzie. When he returned to school, it was taken to D&D, they kept the truck for 3 hours, told him it was fine and that he shouldn;t have any problems. One hour later, the truck broke down, D&D was called, they towed it in. I phoned them the next day and told the owner, Mr. Don Cook, to leave the truck alone, I would have a friend come to McKenzie and tow the truck back to Lewisburg for me at no charge on Saturday. Mr. Cook refused to release the truck, he wanted to check it out, I told him no.

He said I would not be able to get it, that he would not be open on Saturday. I asked him to leave it outside his gate, he refused. I mentioned getting the police involved at which time he threatened to leave town.

After arguing got me no where, I had my mechanic call D&D. Mr. Cook demanded payment for his tow bill. I gave him my credit card number, he said it would not clear until Tuesday, and until he got his money, I could not have the vehicle. I phoned the McKenzie police department and was advised to issue a warrant against Mr. Cook/D&D Service Center. I informed Mr. Cook of the conversation, he said I was not going to get the truck until he had a chance to tear it down and find out what the problem was.

My exact words to him were, "Do not touch the truck, do not tear it down, I will not pay you another dime!" On Wednesday, I left Lewisburg followed by my mechanic driving a roll back truck to McKenzie, Tennessee. Upon arrival, I got a police escort to go with me to D&D Service Center. When I arrived, there was a confrontation between Mr. Cook and myself. He had completely torn the motor down and removed it from the truck. It was in a million pieces sitting in the back of the truck.

He refused to put it back in the truck and he also refused to release the truck unless I signed an invoice he had written up for doing exactly what I told him not to do. At the time, I was a single mother of 2, I worked one full time job and 2 part time jobs, seven days a week, and was trying to put my child through college. Because I was a victim of Mr. Cook's amusement, I not only lost a days work without pay, had to pay a wrecker service for 400 miles round trip to get the vehicle back home.

It is very obvious that Mr. Cook simply took advantage of my situation; 1) being 200 miles away 2) being a woman 3) being single 4) having my son stranded in a small town where he knew no one 5) no one except Mr. Cook has any idea what kind of repairs were done to the truck. Mr. Cook's conduct was totally unacceptable.

Once the truck was back in Lewisburg, I had to have a new motor, radiator, everything replaced. I contacted the Better Business Bureau, all I asked for was to be reimbursed for a days work, my wrecker bill, travel expenses, phone calls, gas. He denied the entire story.
