Brothers Chevrolet
Owner Lad Harrison Blown Engine on Van with 61K on it 1 week after leaving lot, owner refuses to credit, give my $5600 back will give me $2000 on another piece of junk

On July 18, I purchased a Conversion Van from Brothers Chevrolet in Wellington, Ohio. Lad Harrison owner.

By August 4 I was beside the road on Rt 20 with 2 kids in the car with a burning engine. I had to have the car towed by a flatbed back to Wellington to Brothers Chevrolet.

First of all there was no price on the car or any disclosures of any kind. The salesman assured me that the car was "owned by a minister, someone they all knew, and he didnt drive it much, that is why as a 94 it only had 61K on it. The price was 5900, he read from a sheet. It was only at the signing of the paperwork, the finance manager, pushed a as is paper under my nose and told me "This is a formality, we stand behind our stuff, it only has 61K on it and it was owned by a local minister" I asked if I could purchase a warranty and he said "No"

Well, I needed a van like this as I often take my sons friends (10 and 12) from the Boys and Girls Club to skating, the movies, the park, splash zone etc. Now, these kids cant go, some of these kids parents dont have cars or the live with grandmas who dont drive. The kind of person I am is that I am of average means, but I pay these boys ways in to skating, movies etc. I talk to them about going to college and other life stuff also. I am trying hard to make a difference for my sons and these boys at the Boys and Girls Club of Oberlin. The most frustrating part of my rip-off is that I have no way to get them there now and this owner refuses to give me my money back, or select another vehicle (I was even willing to get a higher priced vehicle with a full credit of the purchase price of the van) but Lad Harrison would only give me #2000 after he lied repeatedy about crediting me the amount of my vehicle purchase to both my husband and myself.

Read on this gets even better...

The first week I had the van, I smelled a funny smell, I thought maybe it was cleaning solution or something, but it gave me really bad headaches and I even threw up once. My husband said, maybe it is the muffler system. Well, after riding in it for 4 days and being sick I got an appointment to Midas and they said the whole muffler needs to be replaced! Well, we replaced it at a cost of $200. The speakers in the car were also blown and had to be replaced. The smell continued in the car and made me sick. Then when I broke down on Rt 2 I called the dealer when it was towed back to his lot (where it sits today) and he said "the van had old antifreeze in it and that is what probably made you sick, the antifreeze going across the engine block, looks like the engine rusted and the seals all blew, since the guy didnt use the van much" So, I breathed in antifreeze and so did the kids for about a week. I still get headaches that I never got before, I never get sick.

I called Lad Harrison and asked him what he intended to do about this situation. I told him I needed a car and for what purpose I needed it. His statement to me was and I quote" I dont have any type of vehicles for "people like you" in right now, but I have a couple of "boats" on my brothers lot which is Harrison Ford in Wellington Ohio, but those wouldnt be suitable for you, but I will call you when I get something in the 6000 price range that would work, he said go down to my brothers lot and take a look, I can get anything off his lot" Well, in the meantime, my husband and I talked to my mom who has a car with 161,000 miles on it that we could have to trade in on something more expensive, so she offered it to us. We took it down to Harrison's Ford (with the van still on Brothers lot) and told the salesman, Mike McClennan (who was on our side, by the way)
that we had a $6000 credit coming from the van on Brothers lot (my understanding from the many conversations I had). They appraised my moms car at $4000. We picked out an Murcury Estate Mini Van (soley because it had a third row seat, it had 55K on it) for 9999K, so the salesman said here are your keys, we gave him the keys to my moms car and shook hands with the salesman and left Harrison Ford with the Estate with a temporaty tag and a 2 dollar gas voucher. We got a call from the owner of Harrisons ford (another Harrison (and he told me "Get that car back here, or I will report it stolen" I was so speechless that I put my husband on the phone. He told my husband to call Lad Harrison and if we returned the Estate van, he was willing to give us a 5100 credit on something else on Brothers lot; not Harrisons as the lots were suddenly not interchangable; as he could credit back sales tax. My husband then talked to Lad Harrison and he lied and said " Yes, bring that car back to Harrison Ford and I will credit you the 5100 back on something else when something in the 9999 price range comes in, I dont have it right now, I have some 12K and 13K cars here only." We took the Estate back to Harrisons. Well, my husband and I looked at each other and said "we better go down there and put some money to those other cars and get rid of these sleezebags and at least recoup some of the money"

So we immediately went down to Brothers Checrolet and I walked in and Lad Harrison was the only one there, slumped at his desk, talking on the phone, he put the phone down and I said I am here for a car, we are going to take the 5100 and the 4000 trade that both of you agreed it was worth the 4000, and upgrade to something that is 12 or 13K. We drove a Roudezvous with hardly any brakes for 12999K and said OK, I guess we will have to take this, but you have to fix the brakes. He said I will give you 2000 credit for the van, i changed my mind, I never said I would credit you 5100. Needless to say I told him this was unsatisfactory and left the lot. And here it sits, the van is at Brothers broken, I dont have a car.

PLEASE fax, call write, Harrisons Ford and Brothers Chevrolet in Wellington Ohio, I desparetely need a vehicle to take these boys and girls club kids in!!!:} thanks Donna
