My husband and I went to a tent sale in our home town and looked at what the lot had and we sat down and the salesman wrote up a sale for a 1996 Oldmoble Achevia. We were both young and really needed this car.
We made a small down payment and they tacked the rest of the down payment onto our loan. We were to pay $400 in $100 payments first for our down payment, then we would start making our regular payments weekly. We bought a maintance agreement with this for an extra price. If anything went wrong for so many miles or 3 years, what ever came first then it would be covered by the maintance agreement and all we would have to do is bring it to them or call them and they would tow it to their shop.
We had the car for about a week or less and it started to get hot and run funny, so we called them and they came and got it and brought it to their Terre Haute lot on South 17 Street. This is where they told us was where their repair shop was at. They finally called about 2 or 3 days later and told me to come pick it up and I did. I had it again for about another week and the same thing went wrong again. I called them and they told me to bring it to them and I did. This happened 4 times.
We went to get it the last time and before we went to pick up the car at the shop at the South US Hwy 41 Store. We went inside and payed our last downpayment and a week ahead so we wouldn't have to make another trip for another payment.
The lady at the desk where we made our payment told us to go to the back where the garage was and our car was fixed and ready to go. Well we went to the garage and the mechanic told us he had never seen a 1996 Black Oldsmoble Achevia in his garage.
My husband and I went inside and asked the lady if it was at the North lot and she said, hold on I'll get a manager to help you. She did and this guy comes out and says he'll call around to all the lots (North Terre Haute lot, Indianapolis lots and others) and they all said they did not have our car. The guy asked us if we were sure that we didn't make a mistake and left it at home.
Well, to make a long story short, they never found our car and they refuse still to this day to take this off our credit report. I have a balance of $8844.00 and it says that it was a repo. I'm very upset with this and I called a lawyer and she told me there was nothing she could do. I think there's something someone could do. Not to mintion the pain we have went through for all these years.
This was in 2001 and it's now 2006 and everyone's always gave us a run around. I don't want this ripoff business to do this awful stuff to anyone else. Thank you.
