Complaint / Review
Tunex
Ripoff

I recently had my vehicle worked on by Tunex. I took it in for rough idle and surging while stopped at a light. They recommended replacement of the fuel injection system. I got the vehicle back and planned my trip for the next day. It did seem to run better. However, the next morning, I noticed it was still surging a little bit and now had a dieseling pinging noise. So, I called the Tunex manager about 10 minutes after driving it and explained this to him. He told me not to worry about it and that the computer would clean up the engine fuel flow and what not after a day or 2, and that if it doesnt, to drop by.

I said okay and went about my merry way. I got about 65 miles out of town when the vehicle vapor locked. I let it cool down, and told myself, I better take this back to Tunex. So, I headed back to town only to again, vaporlock/overheat and had to pull over. I called Tunex and they recommended a tow truck which, came and picked up the vehicle and towed it to Tunex.

I am now told, that my motor is blown. I am also told that it was not thier fault or anything they did.
I beg to differ. This vehicle has never overheated and in fact ran really well on the freeway since I got it last year. I have put 10,000 miles on this vehicle without a single solitary overheat or problem. I have talked to my father who is a 40 year veteran mechanic and also talked to a master mechanic, a 25 year veteran master mechanic who works for the police, and both of them have indicated that there is noway that this is NOT related to the work that was done. Hell, my dad got me this vehicle because it was mechanically sound.

I talked to the manager there and he indicated a bad radiator is why the van overheated and that the radiator was blown and that is why the engine overheated.
However, I watched the water and steam coming out of the overflow container when it overheated. So, the radiator, may have failed. But not on its own. The motor overheated first then the radiator took a beating after getting outrageously hot, it blew.
Both my father and a mechanic concur. I am also being advised to take this to a GMC dealer to have it inspected just to verify the cause of the overheat.
Had I never taken this to Tunex, I would still have a running vehicle.
